chicken sleeping in a tree tonight!

Recommended Posts

I moved our new hens to the hen pen today, in their own section, and the leghorn has decided to sleep in a hawthorn tree overhanging the area, rather than going into the eglu with her mates :( So, I guess I have to be up before sunrise tomorrow, just in case she lands outside the electric fence when she comes down  If she makes it OK then she and her mates are all going to have a wing clipped tomorrow. I should have done it before but she hasn't shown any inclination to fly until tonight so I stupidly left it because she's still not happy about being handled - I'm just so cross with myself, I've never not done it before :wall:

Darcy survived her little adventure and is now back on terra firma. All 3 newbies are now sporting a clipped wing each so, hopefully, there'll be no repeat performance tonight - not sure I can cope with another sleepless night or 5am start for a while!

She did look very settled in her tree last night when I checked her just before I went to bed - she'd tucked herself into a very dense clump of twigs and was fast asleep - she looked quite at home up there

Pleased she's ok. I went to put mine to bed one night and one of my old hybrids had been shut out of the coop (wooden one and wind had shut the door) so she had flew over the electric fencing and I eventually found her asleep in a neighbours tree  Picture the scene.....me in the dark in purple wellies and pink dressing gown, sneeking across my neighbours lawn.

I'm glad the wellie/dressing gown combo is compulsory poultry fashion. I managed to trip over a paving slab in my outfit at 6 the other morning and had visions of calling to passersbys to come and help pick me up (fortuanately it was just s"Ooops, word censored!"ped hands and lump on the head where the rake fell on me).

Glad she's survived and is fine, if a little lighter in the feather department.
