OH repulsed at the thought of eating our hens eggs

Recommended Posts

I agree. I can perfectly well understand why people might not want to eat eggs at all; but it seems idiotic to eat shop eggs but not home-grown eggs.

I think all this is about burying your head in the sand: I am sure that all of us non-vegetarians do this to some extent.

Why don't you let him buy his box of eggs from the shop and then substitute a couple of your girls yummy eggs into the box and see if he notices the differences. Keep doing htis for a few times and either just keep on and feel smug or eventually tell him he has been conned (he may be little miffed). Everyone I know loves my girls eggs. I don't eat many but more because I just like them occasionally usually once a week and for baking too. I have plenty of takers for the ones I don;t eat

I feel for your OH. I cooked and ate our first egg eaten with gusto but at the back of my mind a wierd niggling. No rational explanation at all. Few days later and I was chucking eggs in baking, scrambling them and wantonly using them like I'd had free new laid eggs for ever.

My first egg supply were small and pale yellow. But after 2 months of chooks eating my entire garden, I now get very dark yellow yolks and when I first cooked scrambled egg with these eggs it looked like someone had tipped orange food colouring onto my plate. It seemed "un-natural" except I had to remind myself that they were completely natural in fact.

My parents are coming for tea tonight, when I asked what they wanted they offered to buy fish & chips, but when I offered scrambled egg on toasted bagels they changed their mind :D . I have had to save eggs for a few days to stock up.

We've had no problems here....................but then no strange men at our house to contend with (except 15 year old son :!::!: but then they are an entity all of their own :wink: )

I did have one friend who I gave a box of eggs to and when I visited her a few weeks later the box of egs was still sitting on her worktop. I haven't bothered to give her anymore.

Have a queue of neighbours, friends, relatives and work colleagues of my mum who are eager to get another box of our girls eggs. I have had to draw up a rota so everybody gets a box every few weeks :D:D:D

Well my eggs are a big hit with neighbours and friends.

My Mum and my Grandad also have some each week.

Some news though- OH ate a hard boiled egg yesterday!!!!!!!!!

He said that it did in fact taste nice and maybe when he scrambled the others last time he may have added too much milk-hence him saying that they had no flavour. (Although after that he said they tasted horrible :?)

I did have to pretend however that before boiling the eggs I had stored them in the fridge for a while as he thought that it might make trying them easier if he knew that they were kept cold before cooking :?:?

I have explained that supermarkets never store them in fridges but he was insistant that he couldn't possibly stomach trying another egg if it was not chilled before cooking.

Yep-I definitely have a strange one here!:lol:

So, it took a little while but he did end up giving in a eating one without a protest-not that I really cared either way, if he didn't eat them they most certainly wouldn't have gone to waste!

I think he felt silly when everyone raved on about how yummy the eggs are yet he didn't want to eat them.

Glad he gave it another go Jay - he'll soon be progressing to soft boiled and soldiers

CTB loves eating our eggs but as the chickens belong to me he thinks all the eggs do too - he always apologises after he's eaten one.........."Sorry dear, I hope you dont mind but I've eaten one of your eggs today"
