I haven't been to Widgets, but I'd be keen to know what it is like as I was wondering about arranging a group visit of Omleteers from Berkshire / Oxfordshire to go there in the autumn. Another place you might like to take a peek at is Acorn Nursery in Stadhampton which does lots of different pure breeds, hybrids and even ducks. We had a group visit there in May.

Hi, we got our hybrids from there a couple of years ago and they're still going strong! We got loads of help and advice and the children enjoyed seeing all the chicks that they were rearing and they had loads of time for us. It was run from their back garden then and now has expanded to a smallholding with other animals I would go back if they had what I was looking for. I am hoping to get some pure breeds soon so any other localish recommendations would be great.

I bought 4 chickens to add to my flock last year from Widgets. Lovely birds, very patient and knowledgeable owners (whilst I whittled it down from the 8 i really liked), reasonable pricing and all in great condition in a small holding. I only went for 2 chooks, but ended up buying a mixture of pure breeds and hybrids. Very happy with my girls and hope to go back to restock when i have the room!

I got my three there in May, still lovely, strong and laying - apart from broody Pippa

They were very helpful, clipped wings for us, and sold us what we needed but not too much silly stuff. Nice place, lots of room, no smells, happy chickens/dogs/pigs/people :D

Well, we came back with 2, a sussex star and a sussex reverse :D . Rachael was lovely and she had loads of different breeds, could have spent all day there  defiantly worth a visit and her website is up to date too on what breeds she has available.

Yeah it was lovely and Rachael was so good at giving us advice for the best ones to go with our Araucana. The girls are lovely and the reverse sussex is just what it says, instead of been white with black feathers round its neck its black with white round its neck. We have gone with flower names to go with Daffodil so we have Lily and Rose x
