joshuashaw
Hi, I'm new here, but hope someone can give me some info on a dillemma I've come across with my henny pennies. I've got 5 orpies, 3 buff, approx 26week old and 2 white approx 19 weeks. Came from same breeder at separate dates. They have a run approx 30 metres x 15 and are locked up at evenings. As I do normally, went to let them out this morning and noticed the youngest white orpington was looking a bit worse for hair, a few feathers missing and I've come to inspect her this evening and they have lice, brown tiny little creepy crawlies, quite small, not quick. I've always noticed as of recent they all have runny yellow poo which I'd of hoped would of settled as I changed from a small bag to a big bag of layers, different brand. I've quickly nipped to my local petshop to pick up some Battles Louse Powder and Poultry Spice. Can the Louse Powder be applied to the bird? It says on the containers not, but the girl said it could be applied up until a EU law came in which made in compulsory to not be applied to the bird? This is the stuff I purchased; http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=LOUSEBAT750&Variation= None of them lack interest in food, water or treats. They still run and sprint for any treats left over. None are old enough to lay yet so can't judge eff products. Any help much appreciated, kind regards Josh
joshuashaw
The type of poos they are producing seem to diagnose them with 'Blackhead' But I cleaned them out yesterday and when inspecting there house, they have perfectly normally poos in there too. Henchanted
Hi I've looked at the ad and it clearly says it is for pet bedding only , so not licensed for use directly on any pets never mind hens. I prefer to use loads of Diatom (diatomaceous earth or DE - non chemical found in most anti mite/lice powders) which you can sprinkle directly on the hens, holding them upside down by the feet/head down a puff under each wind and puff/dust/ruffle into the bloomers, each bird about once a week. This is not a quick fix but is nontoxic to everything (it kills the mites/lice physically not chemically, by shredding their outer-shells) I sprinkle/dust all nooks and crannies of the house and add some to the bedding and the run floor for their dust baths. We all have different ways of doing things so I'm sure there will be others along with their suggestions.
joshuashaw
When you google Battles Louse Powder you also get images of the manufacturers version of poultry spice, which I think are the same company but I'm going to do further research. Egluntyne
Here is the version for sale in the Omlet shop ... it too says only for use in housing and not on birds This one however, can be used directly on the bird.
