Cinnamon
This is something I have been looking into too,as I have horrid front teeth. But it has been suggested that extractions may be necessary, which along with the cost (£4k),has put me off
kinsk
I looked into getting my bottom ones straightened but was told I'd need to have at least 3 teeth out first otherwise they would all just end up being pushed back to where they were. I would say if you are serious about it get a few different opinions first (professional ones obviously!)
Tiggy
Im giving myself lots of time to look into it, I just wondered if anyone had it done already
emily95
My mum has recently had her teeth straightened and is really impressed with them now. She had a brace when she was a teenager, but had had it for 6 years and when she was told to wear her retainer she did for a bit, but got fed up and stopped wearing it, so her teeth moved back. She was originally interested in the invisalign treatment, where you have clear plastic moulds made (like retainers) that you wear and have new ones fitted regularly, but you have to take them out when you eat or drink, which was going to be too much hassle, and could be embarassing infront of other people! She ended up having a treatment called 'six month smiles' where you have a brace much more like the standard braces, but instead of coloured bands and metal 'stars' you have colourless plastic 'stars' and clear wires. You then have them tightened up as with normal braces, but they are less obvious than normal braces. Because my mum had previously had a brace and only wanted to target her top set of front teeth, her teeth moved into their straight position in about 3 months, rather than the predicted 6 months. She now has a fixed retainer, and a removable retainer that she wears at night (When I remind her!). She though that the treatment was very good, the only thing she didnt like about it was that with the clear plastic 'stars' you have to be careful not to eat foods with a lot of colour in, and although she didnt have any curries or things like that, drinking red wine turned her brace purple! I think it cost her £1200, and she said it was definitely worth it. She went to a clinic in manchester, but it was part of a chain that are all over the country. Sorry for such a long post, but I hope this helps!
Tiggy
thanks emily, I saw some info about 6 months smiles too, the prices seem to vary. what is the chain called I'll see if there wis one nearer to me than Manchester
emily95
I've just checked now, and it's called KissDental, but the chain is only in various locations in manchester, I got confused because the dentist who did my mum's teeth travels around going to different places. Sorry!

Alis girls
Yes had my top ones done a couple of yrs ago after they had moved back after teenage braces. I had the invisbile ones which arent cheap but as I work with the public couldnt beaer the thought of train tracks again. now have a wire behind top front teeth and a retainer to wear at night. Dont they look good Go for it - you can pay in installlments. Mine were call "invigaline" I think or somthing similar
The Dogmother
Mine could do with straightening but don't bother me enough to spend a few grand, which I don't have, on getting them sorted out. I know someone who has used the Invisalign retainers and swears by them.
Alis girls
Mine wasnt for vanity - years ago a stupid dentjst removed a lot of my teeth and thus the new ones were crooked. My dentist has said without straightening as my jaw ages I was in danger of losing them. rather than looking like a crone I paid to have them straightened - so its not always for vanity. He wants me to do the bottom ones - but I had had enough. There are few advantages to ageing and having reasonable teeth is a must for me - thought of dentures makes me gag
loumabel
I would definitely recommend braces. I had mine finally taken off late last year (top and bottom) pretty much the same story as others, I had teenage braces and then they moved back to crooked position, It took two years for them to correct themselves and I now have a wire glued to the back of my teeth so that they don't regress again and also an invisalign retainer to wear in bed. Go for it, most places will let you pay monthly so it is affordable.
