jenkey
Queen charlotte our RIR has sour crop. I took her to the vets nearly a week ago as her crop was huge and full of liquid. He emptied most of it and gave me Avipro plus which she's been having twice daily. The crop is much smaller than before but still bigger than it should be. Yesterday it was quite full again and I emptied her crop myself. Just liquid and a few bits of mushed up pellets came out. She is still on the Avipro and today it doesn't seem to have re-filled but is still markedly bigger than it should be. Is it normal for it to take a while to get back to normal or do you think I need to go back to the vets for some Nystatin? All the girls are on Garvo food with Alfamix for treats, have garlic and apple cider vinegar. They are in a WIR but have around 30 mins free ranging a day. Also apart from the crop issue Queen Charlotte appears well, she is active and eating well, still laying. I'm just worried as I often hear here of chickens who just seem to die overnight and I don't want to lose Charlotte.
Pikey
Sadly I've had a couple die due to sour crop. Try giving her some pro-biotic yogurt as this will help as will the garlic you are giving her. I would stop free ranging and limit what she is eating so her crop has time to get back to normal. When you are checking is it in the am??
The Dogmother
Avipro is excellent but she's obviously prone to yeast infections. I'd try about 5ml of ACV syringe-fed down her throat 3 times a day for 2 or 3 days and see if that knocks it on the head. It may just be that she has some underlying issue which is causing it.
