Sky
Hi, sorry haven't been on here lately (probably because I haven't had too many problems ) I introduced 4 beautiful new POL girls to my flock which had reduced to 4. All eight are now mingling nicely however the new ones are insisting on roosting on the rafters of the hen house. It is lovely and secure but I can't help feeling that they are going to be cold as Winter approaches. I don't shut any of mine in their actual shed at night so as soon as I try to put the new ones in they come out and pop upwards Should I leave them to sort themselves out eventually or should I keep trying to put them where I feel they would be warmer? miller30
As long as they are safe from mr fox i would leave them to it lovely photo by the way leanne
Tweety
They will be fine. My girls live in a similar set-up, and my 2 silver Sebrights sleep in the rafters whatever the temperature or the weather - even in last winter's freezing conditions - without any ill effects
poppy ben grace
I agree with the others, they obviously love it up there! In a way its the most natural way for hens to roost, its their instinct to roost up high as in the wild they would be up in the trees etc. Lovely set up for them by the way! Plum
How funny, I can see you swinging from the rafters trying to get them down.
Alis girls
Did anyone else read "roosting" as "roasting" ? Had a feeling it should be in "all things nice " bit
Sky
Ah thanks everyone, that's put my mind at rest and if they don't eventually join my other two inside on the perch (my two ex batts still sleep on the floor) then there will be room for more perhaps
