Microwave rice cooker

Recommended Posts

How foolproof is this? I never seem to have got the hang of cooking rice, either ending up with it welded to the bottom of the pan or swimming around in loads of water. If I could find a way to cook perfect rice I'd happily invest £6.99.

Well, I've only used it twice so far. First time didn't do it long enough but second time was fine. Throw in cups of rice, cups of water, switch microwave on and then go back to and it's done :)

Thats the one, although a bit more long winded than it needs to be!

Use the volume method she describes - double water to rice. I use a normal saucepan with lid. Rice in (I add a dollop of olive oil at this point and stir in), add ready boiled water from kettle, bring back to the boil, quick stir, then lid on, turn down heat and leave for exactly 15 minutes. Heat off, lid off and fluff up with a fork. Perfect every time. :D

I also have the Lakeland version of the rice cooker, and find it really useful. I agree the Delia method is fairly foolproof, and I used it for years, but I have an awful tendency to start the rice off and then get distracted doing other things. By the time you smell burning, it's usually too late to rescue!

At least with the microwave cooker that doesn't happen.

I don't have this exact cooker, but something similar from Lakeland and I'd have to say it's pretty foolproof (it must be, even I can use it)!!! 8)

Me too, I use all the time. Never cook my rice any other way :D

Another fan of the Lakeland rice cooker here :D All rice (apart from making risotto) gets cooked in it. In fact its the only time I use the microwave is to cook rice :D
