Forestchook
Can anyone advise me on introducing a LF light sussesx who is around POL to a trio of year old bantams. Currently Sabrina is living with her three brothers. Thanks to a let down (and some procrastination) her brothers will be staying with me until at least 6th Oct. However I am concerned they will start fighting over her. As such I would like to move her in with Bosley, Jill and Kelly (who are booted bantams). Today I tried letting her FR with them. For the most part they ignored each other however she and Bosley faced up to each other a few times. Unfortunately the last time they did this Bosley grabbed her and in the struggle she ended up on top of him. He came away with some of her feathers plus a bleeding puncture/scratch on his comb I've left him with his existing girls, keeping an eye on him, and thankfully the blood doesn't seem to be causing a problem. However I am unsure how to proceed. Should I try FRing them together again tomorrow? Or should I wait for him to heal. Bosley doesn't seem to realise she is a lot bigger than he is and I don't want either of them getting hurt! Would intros be easy if I wait until the other three boys have moved on? Or at least until I can house Sabrina on her own instead of having to return her to her brothers after FRing? Thanks N
percy049
you shouldnt continue to carry out your introductions if one is injured. You should wait a couple of days for her to heal before you start letting them free range together again. All your chickens should be able to see eachother, so if you confine her to a run, so she can be seen as the others, but they cant fight. Forestchook
Thanks. They have been able to see each other since the babys (sabrina and her Brothers) were big enough to go outside. Their respective runs are about 6ft apart. When they FR they often circle each others runs and face up to each other through the mesh. I have to tell the older girls not to tease the young boys and then the young boys not to wind up Bosley . It was Bosley ( my existing/resident cockerel) who was scratched, not Sabrina; but then she is a lot bigger than him. I was a bit worried about leaving him with the older girls but it has not been a problem. TBH Sabrina did not seem very interrested in Bosley or the older girls. She kept circling her own run, and seemed to want to be with her brothers. Would she be more interrested once her Brothers have left for the new home do you think? Lewis
Could you maybe let your 2 bantam girls FR with Sabrina, then after a few days let Bosley out with them It may be that he is the top of the pecking order and was trying to let Sabrina know but 'cos she's bigger she pecked him. Getting her used to the 2 girls may help, no rush, just let them get on with it. Mine all FR together, young chicks with their broodies FR with the others from a few weeks old, and have always been fine. Just keep an eye on them to check everything is ok

Getting her used to the 2 girls may help Hmmmmm, interesting! I hadn't thought of it like that. I was working on the principle that Bosley would stop the older girls beating Sabrina up (and vice versa) because he wanted a new member of his harem. I hoped that once he accepted her the other girls will fall in. N
