Unsecure chicken perches

Heard something going on this morning and checked down the garden to check if anything was prowling about. Nothing to be seen.

 

Went down later to see the girls and found a dead mouse in their run. Looks like it had been pecked well

 

Now realised that they weren't shouting for nothing earlier and felt a bit bad I didn't respond better

 

I only have four girls, so they did well between them to catch the mouse. Thought it would have been able to be a bit quicker and escape. Just wondering if anyone else's chickens go for mice and do they generally catch them/kill them?!

One of my ex batts got hold of a live mouse in the run. They went crazy chasing each other around.

It got eaten in the end.

Yep mine eat them, We tend to have very large eggs two days later.

Another one here whose girls chase mice and I have founded the very mangled remains of them before so no doubt a tasty snack for my girls!

Dora ate a whole mouse, yuck!

One of my girls tried to eat one whole but choked and had to cough it up I eventually managed to catch her and get the mouse to put in the bin. She was not happy that I took it away

Thank you everyone. I never knew that mice could be on the al la carte menu I am glad that I am not the only one and that it is completely normal

I had to rescue a poor frog yesterday that one of our girls had found and was running around the garden with the others chasing after her.

We havent always been in time to save the frogs
