rabbitfluff
Has anyone used Safestyle? What were they like? My mum just signed up with a bloke who knocked at the door to have 2 uPVC front doors fitted by them (they've wanted them doing for a while so that's not a problem). They're costing her £2000. Does this sound about right? It seemed quite expensive to me. They did the usual - started at £4000, then if they signed up today and with oap discount etc they could get them for £2000. They seem very dodgy, so my first instinct is to get them to cancel, but my mum doesn't seem keen (tells me I'm interfering!), so I thought I'd get a bit of opinion first. Thanks. Redwing
I'm not saying they are rubbish as I havent had any direct dealings with them but having worked in the double glazing industry for a few years after leaving school I'd say that a well recommended, long standing local company is always more preferable to a national one Bigger companies dont seem to have the thoroughness in quality checking their staff's work or following up if things go wrong (again not directed straight at Safestyle) £2000 doesnt seem massively out of the ball park for two front doors if they are the quality reinforced panel types ( - I think ours were about £900 each but made with the higest quality profile, locks and panels) if they are standard doors (panel in bottom, glass in top) that is over the odds IMHO Personally I'd want to see local examples of their work or at least their product up close

Go for a smaller local firm who have been recommended to you - ask EVERYONE for recommendations & post it on Facebook too.
Griffin
There were Safestyle windows fitted in our last house, not by us but by the previous owner. They were about three years old when we inherited them. At first glance they looked nice but they were badly fitted. There was a crack underneath one of the living room windows enabling us to see outside
chuckmum6
I personally wouldn't buy from a door to door seller, I would want to choose my own company and I hate all this inflated price business, it just isn't honest. I can't comment on Safestyle products, but their selling techniques wouldn't inspire me. I would check on the spec of the doors before the cooling off period if I were you. Bramble
Think I'd echo what others have said, it's a lot of money to rush in to spending. Mum does have a right to cancel ... it's usually 14 days from when she signed up ... I'd be inclined to cancel anyway, she can always go back to them if she can't get a better deal, but I'm sure she'll be able to (not just based on price, though, quality of doors is also VERY important). Good luck!
Cinnamon
They did the usual - started at £4000, then if they signed up today and with oap discount etc they could get them for £2000. Thanks. I didn't see this bit on my first read, & reading it now has really set alarm bells off for me. This is really wrong. Several times we have quoted people, they have already had another quote,& upon hearing what ours is that company matches us. Thankfully people see that the company would have happily charged much more - double sometimes - had they not got a better quote from us,& go with us as the more honest option (our profiles are way better than a lot of the larger firms too - Everest in particular are shocking) Our first quote is generally our only quote & is an honest indication on what we see as the value of the work, not what we can sting the customer for. Angie
I think it sounds a bit dodgy. Why should an OAP discount matter ???? My neighbour had a new front door from everest this summer for £1200 , it has beautiful floral glass panel down the centre of top panel , it is reinforced and a 7 bolt locking system, well fitted with follow up to make sure all is fine.I would do a bit of looking around first. I don't buy from door salespersons i have made mistakes in the past and so regretted it.
Aunty e
This sounds a lot like misselling to me. Thomas Sanderson did this with my shutters and the only reason I didn't tell them to bog off at the time was because they really do have the best reputation in the business. But she's not getting a 'special' deal, that's just how they're trying to push her into buying the doors. i would cancel and look around more personally. cyclonetog
I am an ex Safestyle rep. Ex because I had a nervous breakdown while doing it, ended up out of work for 3/4 months. I couldn't handle what I had to do in peoples houses, used to sit at home shaking, hoping the phone wouldn't ring... On the fitting side, Safestyle keep winning awards. The fitters are employed not subbies and Safestyle do honour their 10 year guarantee. On to the price, 2 doors for £2000 is very VERY good if they are the composite security door. While I was there I never saw one sold, and you couldn't really get any discount on them, I think £2400 was the lowest you could go for one door. So, it seems like 2 uPVC doors, still good quality and secure enough for most places in the UK. £2000 is a little over the odds, unless there's a side flag or something then it's about right. If they're doors with glass in and maybe a pattern then it's a good price. If they are just "solid" uPVC, no glass then it's a little high but not horrendous. I sold 2 doors in an hour one night, £188 in my pocket.
