I have noticed some of you mentioned having some type of tarpaulin to cover your houses. My wooden house doesn;t seem completely water-tight and I think with winter nearly here, I really need some kind of cover. Can anyone tell me what sort of covers are available and where I can get them; also, how to attach them the the house?

I've got a tarpaulin on one side of my coop, which sounds similar to yours. I got a tarpaulin from Wilkinsons which was about £4 and some bungee cords, the tight elastic strings which have hooks on the end, put them through the eyelets on the tarp and through the wire on the coop.

 

Where did you buy your coop from, do they sell covers to fit? I know some coops on eBay have covers to fit, though not sure how good they are, or how good they are for the chickens.

Thank you for your reply. My chicken house is called something like Harry's Chicken Hotel. I can't get a cover to fit it unfortunately; the ones on ebay and such like are different to mine. Anyway, I will try Wilkinsons and those bungee clips sound perfect for the job

I don't cover the coop/cube but I do have a clear tarp over the run - it came off ebay and the seller was something like qvsonline i think.

Make sure you still have plenty of ventilation. I used to cover my cube ( mainly to keep Phillip the cockerel quiet) but stopped when he developed a chest infection. I'm sure it was because the ventilation wasn't as good as it should have been. I now only cover the run.

I have army tarps on my run, with Fun shades, but have these Coop Covers on my eglu

 

They're really good, have loops and come with mini bungees to attach them to the run!
