AndreaT
Thought I'd check on the girls when I got home from work this evening and this is what I found! Naughty for sleeping in the nest box but they look so comfy. Only two of them left in the main part of the cube, I'm surprised they didn't try and squeeze in too
chuckmum6
That looks familiar! I had 9 in the nest box the other day, it was like Russian dolls, when I picked up one there was another underneath, all the way down to some very squashed Pekins!! I think it is because some are moulting, also my growers are in there now. Anyway I won't have pooing in my nest box, so I block it off with the roosting bars from the summer Eglu, which is now packed away for the winter. Love your Arucana, I miss ours. Purplemaniacs
My 6 who live in the cube and WIR all sleep in the nest box, if I am late home and they have gone to bed there is no way that I can check if there are any eggs Only one is laying so eggs are unlikely Chrissie
counturchickens
My 4 ex batts all snuggle into the nest box, I'm too soft to move them!
jackian
2 of mine at least sleep in the nestbox , as I don't want poopy eggs I have to go first thing and poop scoop the nest box... I have tried blocking the nest box but they make so much fuss as Florry always lays really early and wants to get in there. She usually misses any poo though
AndreaT
I have tried blocking the box but they have always managed to squeeze so I've given up now and just let them get on with it! It must have been a tussle at bedtime though as the brown one doesn't normally sleep in there, she's usually last to bed and must have climbed over/pushed out the others to get her spot!! AndreaT
Well they've finally done it! All 6 in there tonight It's very windy and I leave the door open so it could be that it's too drafty in the main part of the coop. I'm worried now that if I do find a way of stopping them sleeping in the box they'll be uncomfortable if I don't close the door!
jackian
I am the same as you Andrea T They are so snug , and life is hard enough for them in the winter , why make life hard for them ..I think if i blocked the nest up now they would be stressed Happy chicks make me happy
