Saving the world.....one hen at a time!

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, my 'friend' got herself a chicken last week and quickly lost interest in it, because it was boring, looked miserable, probably wasn't going to lay until spring etc etc.

So I went back to the place she bought her from and asked what breed she was and asked if he had a friend I could take as I didn't want to introduce her on her own.

She's a brown Sussex bantam, very cute, she does look like a grumpy madam though. He gave me an elder Light Sussex Bantam to go with her, the brown girl is 18 weeks and the white girl is 22 weeks old, they were put in the same box for the journey home and were cuddled up together. They've gone to bed now as it was dark when we got home.

Will take some pictures tomorrow of them......

Then the Ex Batts come on Sunday

Aforementioned friend is relieved hen has gone, chicken keeping wasn't her 'thing', not that she looked after the poor girl for the week she had her, her OH looked after her. Very angry but also happy I got her too!

She was sold a solitary hen, the chap she got the hen from, I know through going to see his chooks and I know he would have strongly advised her to take two. I went back to him today and he said she was horrible to deal with, so he let her have the one but made her promise to come back on the Monday, which of course she didn't but said she would.

I wouldn't even be surprised if she lied and said she had other chooks.....just to take the one

Well here are some photos, they've been very shy today, they've hardly ventured outside the coop and run.

Tabitha doesn't mind being handled but Isla hates it, so I will have to get her used to it!

'Friend' enquired as to Tab's wellbeing today, bet that's more she did in the week she had it.

I'm also fostering 2 silkies for one of my cousin's friends, she's leaving her relationship and is going to stay with her Mum who lives in an OAP complex, so the silkies can't go with her :(, but she is trying to get herself a house and garden so they'll all be reunited with each other soon
