sage
Hi Anyone out there got a bread machine that bakes a normal shaped loaf reather than the cube shape. My Dads machine has given up after only 12 months but he is insisting he wants one that gives a traditional loaf shape Cheers Sage
snowberry
Manufacturers seem to want to make their machines more compact so It's best to see the size of the tin inside it; my Morphy Richards one does smalll medium & large but they're still quite boxy looking. Janepie33
My Panasonic bread-maker has been going strong for nearly 11 years! Yes it does make a square boxy type of loaf but it still tastes delicious! I don't think I know of a bread-maker that makes loaves like the ones you buy from a bakery. You could always make the dough and then bake it in the tin shape of your choice in the oven!
sage
Thanks for the replys I have the Panasocis and think it great but my Dad has got it into his head all he wants is a normal shaped loaf and is sure he has seen a machine that makes one. He hasn't got internet so I have the job of tracking it down and so far I can only fine them in America. Sage
freddie
My Panasonic does a loaf shaped loaf, as in a rectangle, rather than a square, if you get my drift! They really are the best ones, I use it every day!!
Cheeky Chooky
Another Panasonic owner here I must have had it at least 9 years now. I'd love them to design one that makes 'normal' shaped loaves though
Mum
What is a "normal" shaped loaf? Traditional bread tins are rectangular in shape. My breadmachine is a rectangular shape (just taller than traditional bread tins) Cob loaves are round and baked on a flat baking sheet. Bloomer loaves are long with rounded ends, but baked on a baking sheet. If I want a different shaped loaf from the breadmachine size, I use the dough setting and then bake the dough in the oven on a baking sheet as either cob, bloomers, rolls, pizza base etc.
Chickendoodle
I have a Panasonic as well and I always make the small sized loaf which comes out looking like a regular loaf - the medium and large sizes are much taller and don't fit in the toaster ! TutuTallulah
I have a Rachel Allen one (think it was from Argos a couple of years ago) and it makes a traditional rectangular loaf. Having said that, I only use it when I havent got time to make dough in my kenwood chef and then bake it in the oven in a loaf tin. I have had a couple of bread makers and whilst the quality of the bread is ok, I think oven baked bread is much nicer. One last point about the Rachel Allen bread maker - it lives in the airing cupboard as it white and the most vile shade of blue plastic. Definitely not something I would want on permanent display in my kitchen!
