New girls in time for Christmas

Recommended Posts

This morning I went to Olly's Chirpy Chickens (thanks to those who recommended them) and got two beautiful copper blacks. I had been thinking of Christmassy names for them, but settled on Copper and Pepper upon seeing them. I was very restrained, especially as DH wanted me to get four new girls, but I want to get more ex-batts at a later date as well.

My ex-batts aren't too impressed and are being extremely vocal, but they should soon settle down. I'll try to post pics when I can get some decent ones of them.

I have 2 new girls coming 16th January GNRPP ...I am so excited ...as all though not an expert like some on here I feel I have more knowledge than 7 months ago when I had my first 3 girls. We lost poor Florry 2 weeks ago and Poppy is not the same with out her .

Very nervous about intros though as I have read so many horror stories but I am sure after reading all the gen on here it is in the deep end sink or swim.

Excellent - that's exactly where I'm off to on Saturday - hope you've left at least one copper black for me ... definitely got my eye on one of those!!!!

There was definitely at least one left - I was able to choose two with markedly different colourings so I can easily tell them apart. I was a bit worried that one of them was doing runny poos, but they look like the curry poos that we haven't experienced much with the old girls. As they both seem healthy and alert and are eating and laying, I am putting it down to a change of food and water, but I'll keep an eye on them.

As for introductions, well I still find them a bit of a trial and we always have a slight drama. This time, top hen Hilda breached the barricade, and I found her chasing Copper and Pepper, Benny Hill style, around the run, while Flossie cheered her on. We've reinforced the divide, so that shouldn't happen again. The plan is to let them FR together for a while from tomorrow, armed with a broom for separating. There is going to be a bit of pecking and chest bashing, I'm sure, but I'm hopeful that they will all be best of friends by the time we go back to work in the New Year.
