Best Christmas Present Ever.

Recommended Posts

Tiger decided December was a brilliant time to go broody  Because she has to live apart from my main flock due to bullying issues, and she's only happy when she's got chicks to care for, I decided to let her at least try. I bought six bantam Frizzle eggs on Ebay. All six were fertile  Sadly one died around nine days ish but the other five made it to full term. They were due tomorrow, Christmas Day, but they couldn't wait and have all hatched today :clap:

She's over the moon, her babies seem happy and healthy and were all toasty warm when I locked them away for the night. Photos to follow tomorrow :D

I didn't want to disturb Tiger too much today but I did manage a few photos this morning. And I cannot tell you how glad I am that it's been so unseasonally warm! Tiger knows best!

All clean legged and not a beard in sight  Proper little Frizzles I hope

Tiger has taken her brood out for their first free range around the garden today :D They're having a great time exploring. Elizabeth Woodville was delighted with her new playmates and wanted to show them tasty bits and bobs but Tiger told her to go away  It was quite sweet to see such a maternal instinct in a chicken that's not even laid her first egg yet  I suspect it'll not take long for Elizabeth to go broody once she does lay!

I really should take more photos of Tigers chicks. I think we've got two boys and three girls. A lavender frizzle, a black mottled frizzle, both boys and all the girls are plain feathered, two black mottled and a solid black. I suppose I should be grateful, at least with both boys being frizzled they can live with their plain sisters. I'd read that frizzles produce 50% frizzles, 25% plain & 25% over-frizzled. It's a shame mine didn't read that too!
