scubababe
I went to the coop this morning to let out my ladies and watch them come out 1 by 1. I noticed Amber my Loman Brown hadn't come out which was really strange as she is normally the first. I looked around the coop and then saw her lying on the floor under the cube! I had to get my husband to get her He checked her over and said there was no sign of attack. I will miss her as out of my 4 she had the most character. She would regularly fly over the gate and come into the Kitchen to pinch the puppy food, watched on by a bemused puppy!! I could pick her up and she would let the children stroke her. I am thinking of getting another 1 but my thoughts are maybe if I'm going to introduce 1 why not add another 3 and bring my ladies up to 6. I have the Cube so there's plenty of room. When would the best time of year be to introduce newbies? Any advice gratefully received. Edited December 27, 2011 by Guest
Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear that, a shame on today of all days . I don't think time of year for introductions matters particularly, the issue may be whether you are able to find someone who has POLs . (I'm thinking of calling my local chicken breeder soon too .) lindafw
If you get 3 from the same breeder they will be a little group of their own...perhaps bullying will be less when you introduce them. I am of the chuck em out to free range together and put em in the coop at night together brigade! It works for me! Good luck with your newbies when you get them
scubababe
Thanks for the replies. I must admit that my ladies have their own fenced in area where the cube sits with the extended run attached, so they have the extended run plus approx 2ft around the cube and run to roam. I just close them in at night and open them in the morning and they can please themselves where they decide to spend their day I've just noticed that someone on the site has 4 POL (30 wks) for sale which sounds like they are used to being together which may make introducing them easier....hmmmmm Just checked the website of the breeder I got my original ladies from and she has some POL Sussex Stars for sale...hmmmm & she also has Loman Browns...but they won't ever replace my Mrs personality
