Normally they are broody all summer and then have an extended holiday from October to March. I have never known a Winter like it in 6 years of keeping hens. Is this normal? Anyone else getting this? I don't have pure breeds, but even my hybrids have gone on strike - two gingernuts who are under a year old are laying, but all the others are off at the moment. Reckon it's the mild weather? I thought it was usually to do with light levels though. Maybe you're just lucky, the egg-skelter was down to zero after Christmas baking, and I'm pleased to see it slowly refilling. Heidi-Hi Posted January 6, 2012 Share Posted January 6, 2012 Mine has all of a sudden come back into lay too. Averaging 5 or 6 eggs a day, which is great! I was beginning to think that I'm wasting my money feeding them expensive Garvo layers while they are not laying, but they seem to have come back into action.
