WitchHazel Posted January 23, 2012 Share Posted January 23, 2012 I now have my Pashley. Went back to the bike shop at 12.00 today. They were busy again, but this time busy serving people not just socialising. As soon as I walked in, the chap on the counter (who was the chap who showed me the bike last week, not the chap from yesterday) looked up, smiled, and said "Hello Mrs D-, I'll be with you shortly". He then finished serving his customer, came straight over and got the bike. He then spent some time adjusting the saddle and the handlebars, and explaining the lock etc. I rode the bike around the car park again and had a final adjustment. He said that I would need to come back in 6 weeks for a service and so they could make any necessary adjustments to the brakes/saddle/gearing etc. I rode her home. Took about a mile for me to work out that the gears are in specific positions (for some reason I assumed that they were sequential, like on a flappy paddle car). The upright cycling position was so much better than my previous bike, but I still didn't feel quite right; to get really comfortable, I had to push my bottom right back so that it was hanging off the back of the saddle. I started to think that I must have the wrong sized frame. I kept thinking of the numerous Pashley for sale ads, full of bikes that were the wrong size. I reassured myself that it was still more comfortable than my old bike. When I got home, I dejectedly told DH about the saddle....and he said it could be adjusted backwards and upwards. He then adjusted it for me, and it is now much better and I'm a happy bunny. She really *is* a lovely thing, and I'm looking forward to taking her out again. Haven't decided on a name yet. I think I will be riding to work Wednesday - I have to think when I do not need to do the school pick-up on the way home, or have bags full of assignments to bring home or take back for marking! Dare i admit that although i would just love a Pashley i sadly can't afford it. I do however own a Dutch style City Discovery ladies hybrid ( classic style.) Shop bought and fitted, i'm sure i could have bought it cheaper on line but i wanted it setting up and fitting. I am 5' . 3 1/2" , even admitting to an inside leg of 29. The 18" frame was just a tad too big for me , but the 16" is just fine . My old mountain bike is on its way North to a new home. Just couldn't bear to ride it any more too much pain in back and wrists, despite a change of saddles and handle bars, it wasn't doing it for me. So i started saving a few months ago and i did look at a Dawes but it wasn't as comfy as the one i have bought. I am a very happy lady .
