Still no eggs

Recommended Posts

Just venting my frustration really but after a couple of egg free months I was wondering if any other Scottish omleteer or anyone at all still has an egg free flock :o . We are having longer, brighter days so I was kinda hoping I might see an egg soon. They're all pure breeds so I know I'll just have to wait but I just wondered if I'm the last poultry keeper to see eggs this year :D Alli x

If it makes you feel better, my 3 bantams aren't earning their keep at the moment  ! Not that I expected them to I suppose being pure breeds. I got mine in September, only 1 laid an egg every other day from October then gave up about early November and we have had to buy eggs all that time! Fingers crossed they ALL lay soon!

I'm just up the road from you Sparkysmum (approx 20 miles north west of you, actually :) ) and one of my araucanas (approx 18 months old) started last week. Nothing from the cream legbars or the other araucana yet. There's been one from the useless Welsumer and nothing yet from the maran, but I'm hopeful for Valentine's Day (I'd heard that's the traditional day for them starting again).

I'm waiting for Layla to start laying again - she laid about 4 lovely little green eggs but has only laid softies since then (no sign of contents being eaten, just bits of green membrane :( ).

Oh no, that doesn't sound so good. I wonder if it's a weather thing. I remember one of my batt ladies laying softies for a while but don't recall what if anything sorted her out. Limestone flour maybe :?: Hope it sorts itself soon. Alli x

Hi Alli

One of my chicks from last year started to lay at the start of December and has been going well sine (she is an aurcana crossed with an Appenzeller/polish (Paul was the dad)). One of Paul's sisters started to lay this week and I got my first egg of this year from my little light sussex bantam. So it is all started again up here :D

PS JS1 is up here a few doors along from me!

New to all this chicken malarkey but our 4 have not laid regulalry since new year. So I am glad others have the same issue....we have 4 bantams (3 wyandottes and 1 Pekin)

One of them laid about 3 a week in December but apart from that they have laid nothing....i am hoping the milder weather will help things along

I am south of you by quite some distance. I have had about 2 most days from my hybrids/exbats. We are now up to 6 /7 which means the Orpies are coming back into lay. The two bantams have produced nothing since November!!! The 3 Cream Legbars??????Well so far we have had 3 beautiful blue eggs- about 6 days ago, one a day. So is it the same hen? Have they each laid one? Who knows- all I am sure of is that the stress of a first egg/ or three? has clear sent them into some kind of hibernation. Eating well though and looking gorgeous.

well done that hen, NannyOgg :!: There's almost nothing like it is there :?: I still smile and inwardly thank the ladies for their beautiful eggs when ever I find some .Yesterday I was a bit late in collecting and couldn't believe it when I found 4 beautiful eggs all sitting together in the nest box including a gorgeous pale blue from my araucana. Well worth waiting for. :D
