Quick February swap - Inchies

Recommended Posts

I know there is an Easter swap but I wondered in anyone would be interested in a little swap to brighten up February?

I bought a lovely book called Inchies Linky - gorgeous little samples of textile art. It has a really good Look Inside option to give you the idea, no need to buy the book.

I thought we could make a few and swap them? I'm quite happy to sort out the logistics if enough people want to make some in ANY medium - why not use up some of those s"Ooops, word censored!"s??

Edit: We have enough to make this work now but could always do with more people to join in.... :D .

The Rules:

Inchies are one inch square and you can make them from any medium you like............wool, fibres, fabric, paint, paper.....you can knit, crochet, glue, paint, felt, stitch........ anything you like at all. You can finish the edges neatly or leave them raw as long as they are 1" square.

I thought we could all make 8 - keep 4 for yourself and then post 2 to one person and 2 to another - names and addresses to be supplied. They shouldn't cost much to post and if we all post on 20th/21st of February? If you only want to make 4 for the swap then that is OK.

Those taking part:

I shall allocate a number to each person's name on my list and give just the numbers to Carl to allocate accordingly so I shall have no control over who we get to make them for.

Cathy and Emily - you most certainly can :D

Will you provide some basic rules & size proportions please Lesley? :anxious:

I can then plan & make. Thanks a lot.

Yup! - there are very few rules......

I thought we could all make 8 - keep 4 for yourself and then post 2 to one person and 2 to another - names and addresses to be supplied. They shouldn't cost much to post and if we all post on or near to the same date towards the end of February? If you only want to make 4 for the swap then that is OK.

We could do with a few more people so I'll wait a few days and then sort out addresses for you all. Could you all let me have your addresses please? - this swap should fit through the letterbox so there shouldn't be any problem with having to collect from the sorting office and not being able to prove you are the recipient

Ooh - I read your first post, without clicking on the link, and thought 'another swap - no way, I'll be lucky to get the Easter one done in time'! but now I've clicked on the link ... I am really keen to find a way to use up s"Ooops, word censored!"s, and I really like the tiny scope and the freedom of doing whatever you want with these! I have got some ideas already. And it looks like the sort of thing involving a bit of hand sewing, that I could fit in - I need something to do while I'm watching 'Call the Midwife', after all.

What a lovely book, I might get that for my sister's birthday. Count me in too, please.

Interesting tutorial - can I just check, are the four that we are swapping meant to be the same (or similar), e.g. themed by colour or material, or can they all be different?

I have just produced my first two Inchies while watching 'The Duchess', but they are both quite different! I will probably try and improve on these, they were a first attempt, but boy they are quick to make and it's a chance to do things you might not have tried before, or which would be difficult on a large scale. I haven't had so much fun in ages, thank you for introducing this, Lesley!

 this is the woman who gets so stressed by Christmas swap.

 I know, but I can't believe how quick these are, and how creative I feel! I think it's the fact that they are so small, "Ooops, word censored!"ody is going to be able to see the quality (not) of my stitching. I will still be stressed about the Easter swap, I'm sure!

:lol::lol::lol:

I must confess that I haven't made any yet, just gathered interesting embellishments....... I did wonder if an inch square was going to be big enough but I suppose that's the challenge - we could always change to 2" squares if everyone agreed? I don't think all the squares need to be the same Olly, I think mine will all be ...erm.....unique!

I had thought of it being secret but don't mind if you all want to 'show and tell' :D - what does everyone else think?

Snowy - thank you for the link! - I'll go and have a proper look in a minute........

Sam, I'll add your name to the list!

I'm ridiculously excited by this and feel full of inspiration

I think I'd prefer secret ... although if you're making ones for yourself, you could always show those? I'll go with the majority view on this.

Plum, so far I've done one with raw edges, doesn't sound good but on such a small size it's ok somehow, especially if it's something with more than one layer; one has blanket-stitch, and the one I started last night I've machine sewn two layers together and turned inside out, that was hard work at that scale. I'm thinking of possibly binding with ribbon - this is an ideal way to use those little bits of ribbon that I hoard 'in case they come in handy'!
