jess1merlin
We are going to be moving to an area where we will not have access to mains gas, we're not keen to have an oil tank or calor so are going to opt for all electric. I understand how economy 7 works, I think, but then I was told a few companies do economy 10 as well. Has anyone any experience of either of these, I'm getting more confused by the minute. Snowy
Hm, I know economy 7 is cheaper leccy through the night, but more expensive through the day. Maybe 10 is the same but 10 hours instead of 7? We changed from economy 7 to standard rate as one of us is usually home through the day for the children, and with all the washing they generate, it actually works out cheaper. If you cook with electric and have dishwasher, washing and tumble dryer it's probably more cost effective to be on a standard tariff. If you are all electric, even more so! PurpleTree
I'm pretty sure we were on Economy 7 in our flat. It didn't have any gas, only electric, so we had a night storage heater in the front room. To be honest I can't remember what our bills were like, the house we moved to has gas & electric and normal bills, so can't compare. Sorry not much help was I? Duncan08
Is this for heating and water? I have mains gas and it costs a fortune to heat our house as it is occupied 24 hours a day, including elderly and disabled so has to be kept warm. If you are moving and have a budget for renovations I would seriously consider fitting solar panels, the ones for heating are much cheaper than the PV ones for electric. and after the intial outlay you will have no further bills other than periodical maintenance work you can even get feed in tariffs off the government now, you will have to look them up, its a while since I looked into it. I would also look at woodburners, you can get these with boilers attached, check out the running costs for these too in comparison to electricity.
