Lorri-d
Hi guys, I hope no one minds me posting this piccie twice. Can anyone please confirm if the legbar at the front of this photo is a girl or a boy please? We were told by the breeder it's a girl but having looked at photos on the internet I'm starting to wonder. Thank you

Lorri-d
Hi, thanks for replying. Problem is we now can't agree! I think it looks like the girl in your link and yet my dh and dd think it looks like the boy! Here's another photo... calling all legbar experts pretty please and truly hoping its a girl
Snowy
Looks like a boy to me, just going from those web pictures. And it looks like it is developing nice barred feathers already on it's wings
Purplemaniacs
I am no expert but comparing it to the link given earlier I would say boy too. Sorry. Chrissie
thenewchick
boy
Lorri-d
Thanks everyone, I've just spoken to the breeder who said that this one didn't have a white mark on it's head so she's pretty certain it's a girl. Apparently the boys have white spots. This was the only legbar she had left so I couldn't have compared it (not that i'd know what i was looking for) Am really gutted as we only got this one so that my little boy definitely knew his was a girl and she would be staying. He will be devastated if this one has to go and has already named her Does anyone breed legbars that knows for sure? Grasping at staws I know she's a week old by the way, if it makes any difference to the markings.
lindafw
This from poultrykeeper.com Day old chicks have a light patch on the top of the head. When the barring is combined with brown colouring the light spot on the head of the females is small and well defined and in addition there is a very clearly defined dark stripe down the back. The stripe down the back on the males is much fainter and they have a light patch that covers most of their head. Their down is much paler. thenewchick
If you can see this, it's a picture of my two cream legbars that i hatched last year and they were both boys Edited February 27, 2012 by Guest
Redwing
I typed a big long reply to this but it obviously didn't post... The upshot was that the chicks markings aren't at all clear (which they should be but that's another story) You can only wait and see, post some more pics in a few weeks. The breeder sees these all the time so trust their judgement and sit it out but try not to get too attached....
Lorri-d
Thanks everyone for your replies. The thing is the breeder had so many different breeds that perhaps she wouldn't be 100% herself, although she did say she sexes them by the spots. I guess I will have to wait and see. It is a lovely little chick though so fingers and toes crossed. Thanks again x
craftyhunnypie
That's a girl! My saying is pale = male. Hope it is for your sake! Emma.x

Lorri-d
Hi thenewchick, I can see your piccie now (couldn't before) your chicks look really dark to me. I thought girls were dark and boys were lighter, so confusing! God knows what I've got
