Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

4 new chickens in our new eglu as of last thursday ... Still no eggs! I havé pût shredded paper in their nesting box .. Do you think this changes anything in thé egg laying mind of à chicken??! Maybe it is just because they are not ready .. Its thé first time for me using shredded paper....

Congratulations on your new girls . Do you know how old they are? Chickens don't follow the rulebook and will just start laying when they're ready . You may be lucky and get eggs straight away or you may have to wait weeks (or even months!) .

Shredded paper should be fine. I use it when I've run out of wood shavings or straw. My hens don't seem to mind what I use!

Thank you ! Have put some wood shavings in nesting box ... Just in case its all down to shredded paper!!!!; ))

Welcome to the wonderful world of chicken keeping I think anything in the nest box is fine as long as it is soft and cosy. As for laying sometimes it takes a week or so to get eggs as it takes a while to settle into a new home.Trust me they will lay and you will be chuffed to bits.
