scubababe
Thinking of asking the local school if they would like to hire my spare classic & run for their garden & children. I would keep an eye on it as my eldest will be starting school there next year. Not sure of the ethics of this or if it would be possible..or indeed if they would want too Does anyone else do this or what are your thoughts
Wiggle39
Hi Scubababe, Although I haven't actually leased an Eglu to a school my DD's school has one now due to my DD enthusing so much about keeping hens. They've found it a great way to teach the KS1 children about the food chain and where their food comes from. Omlet also have downloadable teaching plans and risk assessments for them to use which eases the paperwork side too. I'm Registered Childminder and use the plans and risk assessments for my setting so I can recommend them. I hope your local school takes you up on your offer as the children will really benefit. Some of the children at my DD's school didn't Even realise that eggs come from hens!

Wiggle39
How funny! According to the Revised EYFS briefing I went to last night we can really cut down on risk assessments, although I think I'll carry on with my ridiculous amount of paperwork until I've had my next inspection (due sometime towards the end of the year). So far the 2 Ofsted inspectors i've had seemed to be really happy with the mini zoo but I'm dreading getting an inspector that doesn't like the pets as none of them seem to stay where they're supposed to be when we have visitors. At my last inspection my favourite cheeky hen jumped the electric fence, legged it up the garden, took a mad flapping leap over the stable door and headed straight for the radiator in the kitchen! I just feigned ignorance and said how odd, she's never done that before..
