kittyl
Hello, last year you folk were really helpful when I hatched my first eggs with my broody Pekin. Now one of last years chicks, a bantam brahma is broody & I'm going to try it again with her own 3 eggs. This morning she was sitting in the covered cat litter box that I use as a nestbox in the run. I spent the morning cleaning & prepping last years little wooden rabbitbox, put her in there, gave her the eggs, 30 mins later she was out in the garden with the others. I put her back 2 more times then gave up. A few hours later she ran back to the litter box & sat firm, so I gave her the eggs again & she's seemed happy so I've left her there. Its open at the front so not too warm but its obviously where she wants to be so ... tomorrow I'll fence her in & get a new box for the others. When she left the eggs they got quite cold, but I'm hoping that nothing much will have happened after only a morning sitting on them. Do you think they'll have a chance? or would they have started to grow straight away? & then the cold could have harmed them
sjp
I'm hoping at least 24hrs as my speckled sussex did the same to me yesturday I move her to the broody coop were it'd put 5 eggs plus one of yestuday mornings she'd been sitting on that was warm. she promptly jumped out of the coop had a run around let me catch her then sat next to the eggs all day before sitting on them last night and all day by the looks of it so it's fingers crossed for both of us
kittyl
I hope you're right & the eggs are ok Chatty Chicken, and our girls remain firmly sat!! Last year my Pekin would sit anywhere so long as she was on an egg, obviously not all hens feel the same!
