My two have a pretty strong track record for destroying most dog toys in a few minutes; apart from Kongs, they are usually reduced to a pile of rubber chippings and white fluff in a trice.

 

We have been converted though... I recently bought a Cuz toy at a lurcher rescue show and it has lasted beyond my expectations. It seems to be made of the same material as a Kong but has a dull squeak and bounces irregularly which interests the hounds.

Thanks for that, I will keep an eye out for them.

 

Our Duncan pulverises rubber toys, heavy ropes last longer but then start to fray all over the house. Loves to rip balls to pieces, our poor son has lost hundreds over the years.

 

His best 2 toys are 2 small teddy bears. He seems to treat them like his babies and just holds them in his mouth and carries them around. He never chews them and they are soggy but still in good nick after 3 years.

 

Its very endearing to watch as he is so gentle with them.

Oh yes, Dylan had one of these as a pup called "Mr Squeak" but we had to remove the

squeak as he was a gun dog in training. He is 7 now but he still has "Mr Squeak"

which i use a reward retrieve - his big tongue comes out and his eye come out

on stalks when you get Mr Squeak out!

These were sent over from the US as a donation to the rescue from a generous lurcher owner, the fact that they were supposed to be indestructible was a challenge to me!

Mr Squeak only has one leg but at 7 years old i guess that's not too bad for

a dog toy.

He has the large red one with just legs and i think we have a very small white

one somewhere.

Well he's a little disabled (no legs) i think taking the squeak out has prolonged

his life a bit but still loved by the big guy.

my two are just arguing over the one I have, Cyrus is a big ninny and finds the squeak frightening. I thought it was actually rather quiet compared with other toys. I wonder which will wear out first, this or the antler chew.

OOh i'll have to get my mini woofer one of those! He has the terrier instinct for killing things and adores balls and anything that squeeks!

They do look good. They have lots of different one on eBay My dog is too soft mouthed for one, she prefers her cuddly toys

There seem to be plenty of outlets online or I think you can get them from the rescue that I bought ours from (the full price goes to the rescue).

 

Ruby loves it but Cyrus is only just learning to play and doesn't much like squeaky toys, he prefers to snuggle up with his teddy

Ooo bet my mums dogs would like those & my hairy niece!

They are a nice looking toy. My hairy niece loves balls, so think she would really like one of these with legs!

This looks just the thing for our ESS. We have given up with soft toys as these are instantly ripped to shreds. A friend got her a lovely little lion for her birthday and within the blink of an eye it was like a snowstorm in the kitchen .

 

The antler chew has lasted for ages and she loved it. I have just ordered a second one and will check out these toys as well.

 

Edited to add: I have done a search and have found lots of different shapes and sizes. Do you think medium will be the right size for an English Springer?

Yes it would, I have a medium one and it's just right for my two. Check with LBB if you're at all in doubt and she has spangles too.

 

Rubes usually sees any squeaky toy as a challenge and they are destroyed in seconds, in fact I sometimes buy her one of those oinking pigs just for the entertainment of seeing her shred it!

I have ordered a dino and a bad cuz. Was only going to get one but as it was two for less than a tenner including delivery the extra one bounced into my basket

I was talking to OH outside the kennels about this thread and mentioned Mr Squeak

in ear shot of Dylan - His little face brightened up so much i have to get Mr Squeak out and

throw it for him.

Wow, I will have to show this thread to my parents. Their (now very elderly) terrier who is also a champion toy shredder has one of these! They found it by chance years ago in a pet shop but have never seen one since despite hunting high and low, as they also find it impossible to find terrier-proof toys. The ball on legs (as it is known) has long since been de-squeaked, but is still in good condition mainly due to its use having to be restricted over the years. They have never dared to let it get destroyed as they can't find a suitable replacement! This will be the answer to their problem!

Tango only likes toys that she can shake and kill - she does have a play with the ball on legs when we go to my parents' but gets cross that she can't kill it properly
