fibrowne
Hello, sorry - another question. First timer though for hatching in Brinsea Octagan 20. Followed it to the letter and today is day 18 - and nothing has happened So what happens now? do I leave the eggs there? I thought day 17 was D-Day? Thank you. Redwing
Thats not too good but its rare for absolutely nothing to hatch Are they your own quail's eggs? If you can get hold of a candler its worth giving them a candle. if not I'd sit tight for a couple of days and if nothing then admit defeat
fibrowne
Hi thank you for the reply. They are my friend's quails eggs. She hatched some herself a couple of weeks ago - oh dear, so sad! I will hang on though. We did it right - we think! Took lots of advice. Thank you.

Purplemaniacs
Oh no, I am sorry, such a disappointment after the effort and worry of incubation. Did you candle them? Chrissie
fibrowne
Hi, thanks for the reply - I am sad. I tried to candle them, but I found it difficult as their shells have so many shades of colour. I suppose I should admit defeat? Today at half past 2 is officially day 18. Thank you.
Lewis
Sorry to hear that - mine were on day 18 on Monday and started hatching so you may still get some! A couple hatched yesterday and 1 hatched overnight so I'd give them until day 21 and see how they go. They are much more fragile than chicks and I've had a few die and a couple that had pipped but died in their shell, so make sure humidity is up
fibrowne
Thank you - incubator is still on and humidity still high!

Lewis
Congrats! Make sure you leave the incy shut to keep humidity in. I had to add more water as it'd evaporated and had humidity problems so a few Dead In Shell
Purplemaniacs
That is great news, what a fantastic surprise Congrats! Make sure you leave the incy shut to keep humidity in. I had to add more water as it'd evaporated and had humidity problems so a few Dead In Shell This part of the hatching process confuses me, how do you know when the water needs topping up if you aren't supossed to open the incy. I found the humidity the tricky bit at the end when the bantams hatched, just wondered for next time Chrissie
fibrowne
Thank you - oh I am sooooo in love! Have moved them to a brooder now - oh I just love them! Solo, Symphony and Serenade..........I wonder if more will hatch! Thank you,
Lewis
This part of the hatching process confuses me, how do you know when the water needs topping up if you aren't supossed to open the incy. I found the humidity the tricky bit at the end when the bantams hatched, just wondered for next time A hygrometer is best so you can see what the humidity is at. The 2 incys I was using have clear lids so can see how much water was in there, I could see it was running low so popped a damp piece of kitchen roll in there to give the humidity a boost!
