Tango and her new toy

Recommended Posts

Anyone else's dogs go hyper when they get a new toy? Tango found a tennis ball out on her walk this morning and proudly trotted home with it, throwing it for herself a few times on the way to make sure it worked (it did, phew!). She then rejected her usual schedule of going to sleep after her walk and played with her new prize for half an hour before zonking out. I sat down for some lunch about 40mins ago, and she immediately picked up the new ball and started zooming up and down the hall with it.

How long before the novelty wears off, I wonder?

Oh yes!

Herbie has a new toy that he discovered on his walk - feathers  !

We walk the dogs round a country park that has hundreds of geese and ducks, and it looks like one of the Canada geese met an unfortunate end, so there's lots of large feathers around. Herbie chooses one and carries it around so proudly, before he gets distracted and drops it (proper little boy, he can't multi-task  ). Once he remembers, I then have to find him another feather to do the same thing with, and it's now become an obsession every walk - I'm hoping the fun wears off soon :D

I tried giving the girl-dogs feathers to play with and they just looked at me

Lizzie is really funny about 'treasure' she finds on our walks. She has a thing for plastic drinks bottles which have been discarded and will happily carry them around. She also likes finding tennis balls, intact or not, but she never ever brings any of it home. She always drops them outside the car park at the woods. I don't know why she doesn't want to bring treasure home.

They all had new toys on Tuesday. I bought four different squeeky toys. Ella wasn't interested, only food interests her. Lizzie was delighted and Honey did what she always does with new toys or bones, attempts to steal them all for herself. She really takes the mickey out of the other dogs. Dogs are not allowed upstairs, they all know that, but because for the first few days Honey was here she was allowed to sleep in Mollys bedroom so we could keep her & Lizzie apart, she choses to believe that set a precedent. She took all of the new toys one by one and hid them at the top of the stairs. Lizzie knew that they were there but wouldn't go up to get them because she knows the rules. Bless her, she looked so upset. I don't know how many times I kicked all the toys down the stairs. Honey loved this new game

I had a kleptomaniac cat like that; she used to bring in anything metallic and shiny, rather like a magpie  she also stole anything shiny that we left lying around the house. Luckily i knew where her stash was and regularly retrieved my jewellery.

I never did manage to train her to bring in anything valuable mind

 big doughnut!

Cyrus is learning to play these days and he's really funny; if you throw a ball he will chase Ruby who is chasing the ball, but if he picks a ball up in his mouth then he immediately drops it looking surprised. They both play with Ruby's teddy; ragging it and fighting over it but Ted never gets hurt
