scubababe
My eldest son (4) came down with chicken pox about 4 weeks ago. He asked me whether he had got it because one of the chickens had pecked him when he was hand feeding them corn My youngest (2) came down with chicken pox 2 weeks ago and so did I!!!!! My doctor tried very hard not to laugh when I told her that yes I am young at heart but getting chicken pox is stretching it a bit far!!! It is true that adults getting chicken pox is worse than when a child gets it....I can't remember the last time I was so ill I was confined to bed!! Hey ho...almost back to normal...just need to get rid of the spots which make me look like a spotty teenager
Gertie
Feel sorry for you, it's not nice as as adult. There's been tons of children with it recently. I unfortunately had it when I was 17. Talk about a very bad time to get even more spots to be self conscious about Hope you are all feeling better!
patsylabrador
My ES who is 27 emailed me asking advice about a 'rude word' rash which is driving him mad. Not seeing it I suggested heat rash, then unexpectedly we got together and he showed me his 'rash'. He has shingles. We've all had chicken pox, so to be on safe side I made him see a doctor. I don't know, but I understand shingles makes you feel appalling so he's done well to keep going. I'd have liked to mum him a bit but he's not like that, but I did manage to give him a bag of potions and creams to help soothe and his girlfriend is very good although she's not had chicken pox so I'm worried for her. She made me laugh though, her parting words to me were " I'm going to boil wash everything when he's gone".
munkee1965
I had chicken pox when I was 18 and felt dreadful. I had spots EVERYWHERE I had to have 3 weeks off work and it left me feeling very low and run down.
Snowy
Chicken Pox is definitely worse when you get it as an adult! There is now a vaccine available and hopefully in the near future, anyone who hasn't had the disease as a child will be offered the vaccine to prevent adult chicken pox. If you are worried, see your GP - you may be able to get the vaccination. It is certainly widely available as it is already offered to all non immune health care workers. scubababe
My sons bless them didn't show any symptoms until the rash appeared and they have been reasonably 'well' with it I had really bad flu symptoms then discovered the rash!!! When I visited the docs she basically said that I go to bed for 5 days, she stressed that I had 'duvet' rest or i'd risk complications!! My hubby had to take 2 days off work as I was incapable of even looking after the kids 10 days later my rash has now dried up. It was the shock of getting chicken pox at 48 years old!!! It is rife at the moment and was secretly pleased that my boys had got it before they started school just didn't bargain on getting it myself I got the rash 'everywhere' even in my mouth Hey ho at least we have now got it over and done with Thanks everyone for your support...at least I can leave the house now
The Dogmother
I had it twice; once as a 13 year old and the scars to prove it, then again in my 20s after nursing a friend's children who had it. 2nd time was definitely worse.
Seagazer
Oh dear, my neighbour years ago caught it off of her son, who'd given it to my DD. My neighbour was pregnant at the time and was sooooo ill with it. She had spots in her mouth, inside her eye lids, up her nose. She was very worried about the affect it would have on the baby but he was fine. My ES's secondary school didn't believe me when I phoned to tell them that ES had caught it at the age of 14. I wouldn't have thought it was that unusual Hubby has had shingles but an unusual form, it didn't blister. The Doctor had initially sent him away saying it was a pulled muscle. He recovered quicker than I had expected him too. I hope you feel better soon and that you haven't been scratching!!
chickencam
My brother in law and his wife are going through this at the moment. Their eldest who is 3 got it first followed by BIL and the youngest who is 10 months old and has a serious heart condition. they were really worried about him getting it but were told by the hospital that he was unlikely to have any complications from it, which seems to be true, he has had it for a week now and has been largely ok. BIL who is nearly 42 had flu symptoms for a couple of days and is covered in spots but is coping ok. SIL had it when she was 19 and was really ill with it and her mum ended up in hospital with it then. My friends got it when we were all 16 and as far as I'm aware I didn't, but I must have had a mild dose and picked up some immunity because when my children got it I didn't but OH did he was 37 when he got it and wasn't too ill but did look terrible because he couldn't shave for over 3 weeks ans despite having brown hair his beard grew out ginger, which caused some amusement at a time when we were all a bit miserable. I hope that you are better soon.
BarbaraJ
Some people just don't get it, my mum is 82 and was a teacher and head never had it. My brother ( eldest child ) never had it. Me and my sister both had it , my kids all had it , eldest got it then her 2 siblings 2 weeks later.
The Dogmother
I had it really badly in '76 (followed closely by glandular fever ) my sister was encouraged to catch it from me but didn't. About 3 years later she got it though and gave it to our mother (who'd never had it and was very ill).
