Goosey Lucy
This photo was taken looking towards the north of my lovely island home on Tuesday evening(my house is somewhere just below the horizon and to the left of the photo.) Unfortunately I wasn't looking up into the sky but will be paying more attention in the future. I had no idea we could see the Northern Lights from here

Olly
Wow! I'm very - it's on my Top 10 list of things to do, and I'm contemplating a trip to Norway next year. That's a fabulous photo.
Redwing
How lovely. Really special I have been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland but only once despite several trips there
snowberry
Wow! The lights are on my wish list. My neighbour here saw them above St Ives when she was young in the 60's.
The Dogmother
How lucky is that? My folks took us to Lapland about 8 years ago but we didn't see them then. What I find amazing from watching footage is that they are totally silent; they look as if they ought to fizzle or snap like an electric current. Cinnamon
We have seen them here too,a few years ago. We spent a HUGE amount of time looking at the gorgeous green swirls & wondering what they were, until a neighbour enlightened us.
Seagazer
Fantastic - I didn't know you could see them here. On our way back from Finnish Lapland the pilot said that there were Northern Lights on the right side of the plane but unfortunately I was on the wrong side I'd quite like to do a cruise/Northern lights trip for my 50th I think. I would be really disappointed if I didn't see them though.
Ziggy
I didn't know you could see the Northern Lights in the UK either, until recently when I read something about unusual solar activity and read that this year, in the right circumstances, the northern lights would be visible as far down as Rome!! I registered with the Aurora Watch, and get text messages when there are aurora 'alerts' in the UK... I have had some red and amber alerts since registering with them a few months back, but unfortunately they were always on really cloudy day. As I live in the city, I don't fancy having to drive off in the night for 40 minutes just to stare at a cloudy sky... If you google 'aurora watch', you can find the site with all the info (make sure you get the UK one...)
Goosey Lucy
Thanks for that Ziggy, I've just looked them up and signed up for alerts. Here's hoping we see another one soon ...
