Youngest off to secondary school

Recommended Posts

Hope he has a good day. ES started secondary school yesterday, he was quite cool and calm, I managed to act that way too, although on the inside I felt sick, watching him walk off to catch the bus on his own. He had a really good day, so much so that he was at the bus stop 15 mins early this morning - no doubt novelty will wear off! Youngest two have started back today and I don't start until next week, so feel quite lost today. I hate it when they all go back to school.

I remember the feeling well, my younger 2 have gone back today, DS into 6th form, he is very excited about new subjects and girls, his school is single sex until sixth form and much like his dad he gets on far better with girls than boys, he had a short induction yesterday and well over a third of his year group is now girls, he is a happy boy. YD starts yr 9 today and I think the reality of harder work is hitting home, she has a lot to live up to from her elder siblings.

I am glad that I am not the only one that watches ,my children go back after the summer with a pang of loss, i love the lack of timetables and having them mooching around during the summer, I feel that i have time to get tot know them again, rather than rushing around and nagging at them to get things done.

That said I am enjoying a single day to myself today, because ED has gone to work, so I have a peaceful day before working for the rest of this week and all of next. :D

Good luck everyone, it will be fine :D

Poor lad came in shell shocked and knackered. Very tired and grumpy this morning - his school is within walking distance and he set off like a camel - they have to wear full uniform in this heat. I walked him to the corner - but he didnt want his embarassing mum to go any further  He has so much stuff and hasn't been given locker yet. ES who is in 6th form obviously felt he wasnt geting enough attention - he wears mufti and its a case of wheres this and that?? I start a new job in October and will be leaving at 7.30am - I will have to get organised otherwise we will all fall apart. OH doesnt work but has a tendency to be too laid back till he cant find something. Men!!

ES left early again this morning, quite happily, but he's finding the homework a pain already - little does he know it hasn't really started yet! He loves being outdoors on his bike with his friends, so when the sun's out, being inside is an alien concept to him. They don't get a locker at school, so he has to carry everything around all day and I've just noticed he has food technology and PE the same day - I just hope his music lesson doesn't land on the same day, can't see him managing his tenor horn along with everything else!

Eugh, food tech and PE on the same day-I remember days like that-then having to lug everything around site all day between 'upper' school and 'lower' school...what fun! Especially if you had a cookery session in the afternoon straight after assembly-which inevitably overan and then have to run upstairs to the form room in lower school to collect your stuff then all the way up to upper school and 3 flights of stairs!

My next door neighbour has a son who started secondary school this week-that made me feel old, as I remember when he was born-saying that she felt old when I started university last year, as she remembers my brother, (he's 12 years older than me), going off to uni for the first time and I'm the youngest!
