Chortle Chook
OH was just white washing a wall when my curious gold laced Poland, Dizzy, fell in the pot of paint. He had repeatedly re-located her to the other end of the garden and thought she was busy on some cabbage down the bottom. Then one mintue she was perched on the edge of the paint pot, and the next she was in it. There was no time to take a picture. We've been washing and washing her. Luckily it was emulsion but she still has quite a lot of white flecking on her head and wings. I've double checked her eyes and nose and they are both clear. I'm now praying she did not swallow any Do you think she'll be ok? Are there any signs I should look out for in case she has ingested any? chicken bark
Hope she is okay. Is that how those that show chickens get them so pristine - it's all just emulsion.
Lavenders_Blue
Good grief, what a daft chicken! I think you have done all you can for now. Just keep an eye on her and if she looks poorly then I guess you will need to take her to a vet. Do you think it would be likely she swallowed any? Even if she did have her beak open, I can't think much would have gone in? I hope she will be okay
zakjon-98
Hope she will be alright. I guess she couldn't see with all her hair! I agree I doubt she would be able to swallow much if any paint when she went in.
Mrs_B
Oh dear! I really hope your Poland has no affects from the paint. I am sure other posters are right when mentioning the fact she might not have swallowed much even if her beak was open. Maybe keep an eye on her crop in the morning to check everything digested OK? x
Chortle Chook
Well she is chirpy (litterally) at the moment so I really have my fingers crossed. I have not separated her as she is pottering about the garden and seems happy. I'll let you know how she is in the morning. I'm having to be very restrained with OH so I don't blame him for leaving the lid off the paint pot, but I'm inside.
Redwing
Self white Polands arent easy to find so you may have stumbled on something there Chicken Bark, I spend ages with the Tippex drawing the white lines on my black hens, how could you expose me so cruelly? CC - I think the chook will be fine, its water based paint after all, i'd allow her plenty of drink but maybe very little food this evening
Chortle Chook
Many thanks everyone. Redwing I followed your 'no food' advice and today I'm delighted to report that Dizzy is as right as rain. Am I relieved! She does have some interesting barred feathers amongst her laced ones but that will just have to wait till she moults. For the first time ever I'll be glad to see all those falling feathers
chicken bark
Great news! It could be worse she could have ended up with blue and pink polka dots. Ah Redwing - sorry I let the finer side of showing chickens out of the bag...

majuka
Glad that Dizzy is ok after her ordeal. I am just imagining the phone call to the vets for advice and them trying not to laugh
Chortle Chook
and do you have an interesting design on your wall/path now? Yes there is a lot of white paint on the terracotta path - but no matter, we should be able to get that off rather more easily
