I like how he's trained the dog to put the ball back in the chute, but i'd worry about it getting obsessed about it - can you imagine a border collie doing that? I'd wear it down

I have seen this and loved it. My dog would too.

 

Cheaper option for not techies which I have trained Milo to do is to get a length of plastic drainpipe. He puts the ball at the top and then chases it down. Not quite as dramatic as an automatic ball chucker though!

Brilliant, my border collie would think all his birthdays and Christmases had come at once! The rottie really doesn't get fetch, by the third throw he's fed up

Ruby is reasonably good at chasing the ball and will bring it back sometimes but not being a retrieving breed, she just doesn't get it and when she's decided that i have learned how to throw a ball she goes off to find something to kill

 

Cyrus just chases Ruby, if he picks up a ball by mistake he drops it in horror... poor boy can't help being a ginger eejit

I've seen this video before - it's great! I really need one of these, Tango is totally ball obsessed and drives us potty trying to get us to play ball in the house (we usually end up having to take the ball away from her to get some peace).

Love it. The only problem would be that we would need something with a much longer throw for our Border Collie. A trebuchet, perhaps? In our garden we have 8 steps up from the patio to the garden. Our old BC invented his own game. He would stand on the top step, nudge the ball over the edge, watch it bounce down then chase after it; go back up and repeat. Unless there was someone on the patio to throw it back, in which case he used to adjust the "nudge" trajectory so that the ball always rolled to a halt by your feet, no matter where you were standing. He was uncannily accurate, as well, bless him.

Willow doesn't get the whole idea of "fetch" - she has a collie friend who plays fetch ENDLESSLY - Willow just stares at her clearly thinking "what ARE you doing that for - she threw it, let her fetch it"!!!

That's hounds for you; they just don't see the point Ruby has a wee bit of beardie collie in her and will retrieve to a point, when she says 'now that you know that game Mum, can I go play on my own?'

 

LBB's Dylan was retrieving beautifully from around their house yesterday; he brought me all sorts of toys including his pink fluffy princess handbag in fact I think he retrieved everything but the cat!

Cyrus does that .. Ruby will chase a ball or frisbee for a limited amount of time until she decides that I have learned that trick and it's time to move on. Cyrus will chase her but doesn't have the faintest idea what to do if he accidentally gets the ball... Bless
