Disappointing customs list to Australia

Recommended Posts

Some of you may know that my 18yr old son has gone to Australia for a year.

We were just getting his Christmas parcel ready to send and thought we should just check what we can send, only to find that gels are not allowed.

This is disappointing because my daughter had bought a certain mens shower gel, and he desperately wanted his hair gel he had left behind.

What shower gels are there that are called something else ?

What's in a gel that makes it so that it can't go abroad, and how come I can take shower gel in my luggage ?

Australia has some of the strictest quarantine rules in the world, and for good reason. Australia is free from most animal diseases and it has a very sensitive ecosystem.

You can send gels, but they must not contain any plant products. Shower gels etc that are produced in Australia undergo strict quarantine regulations.

Oz and NZ are SOOOOO strict on their customs- we have rellies in NZ and, every year, I scratch my head for ages wondering what I can send (on a budget too, taking into account post and packing as well as item!) I feel restricted to printed matter (not another calender  !!) or textiles- this year looking at Emma Bridgewater tea towels on E bay!

I can totally understand WHY but its still frustrating!
