Winter dedication

Recommended Posts

I can't believe it is only 4:30 and already it is dark and my girls are tucked up in bed! OH and I have been freezing our bottoms off in full snowboard kit sat in the garden for the last hour and a half as we can't let our girls FR unsupervised since Mr Fox got one of our neighbours hens. The only saving grace was a bottle of wine! Anyway,Connie marched everyone off to bed with a lot of shouting at about 4:15 and I just had to share with you all the image that greeted me as I locked them in - buffy's backside hanging out of the cube door, with Dorothy's head looking out from underneath and between her legs and nonchalantly on the side Connie with her head tucked under Buffy's wing!! Ridiculous things don't seem to realise they are meant to be grown up now.

Cleaning out in the rain aside, I think I find looking after my chooks in winter easier than in summer. There is something so satisfying in shutting their little door at about 4.30 when they have all trooped in out of the horrid weather. I also love giving them porridge on frosty mornings and even enjoy drying their little heads when they have got all wet and mucky. By contrast, in the summer, they seem to go to bed so late that I'm in danger of going to bed first

mine went to bed at 4 today! after looking at me as if i had caused the gales which were blowing their knickers in the air! dont blame them really, feel like going to bed early myself when its so horrible outside.

it got so windy at one point i was a bit worried about the WIR! have to check it all over in the morning as its still windy out. I put on full waterproofs to pop out and shut them in, and poo pick the WIR!

Maybe there's a supplement that could make them properly glow in the dark! It got dark here before 4pm - I'm not usually home til 6 or 7. Miss seeing my girlies during the week, my favourite time was when I got home and could let them out then stay in the garden watching them put themselves to bed before I had my dinner!

Grandmashazzie - if the flubenvet still leaves you with some fluidity then I have found bokashi bran to be a fab wee addition and if anyone has eaten too many slugs oregostim seems to help.
