A Royal baby Nurse tragedy - split from Royal Baby thread

Recommended Posts

I hate the way people sit back and laugh at the victims of so called pranks. I'd have felt so ashamed and stupid if I'd been that nurse. The radio station and DJs should feel bad, they're adults and didn't care about the consequences of making someone look bad. This has been a long time coming.

I'm with Patsy on this. I am sure they didn't think anything like this could happen as a result but the key phrase there is 'they didn't think'. Medical staff take breach of confidentiality very seriously so to trick someone into doing that then play the call for anyone in the world to hear would have been devastating.

The response from the radio station has been damage limitation rather than contrite.

I hope there are no further tragedies out of this but can't help feeling desperately sorry for the nurse and her family and not at all sorry for dj's on a radio station with a history of not considering other people.

I agree totally

However, I simply cannot understand why rigorous procedures were not in place to prevent exactly this type of thing, and to head idiots such as these two off at the pass.

Agreed

Easy to say in hindsight, but why didn't they have a member of police/palace staff on the reception at all times to take any calls pertaining to Kate? It is too much to expect a nurse to have to deal with idiocy like this, but then (as a hospital which must have its fair share of famous patients) they should have receptionists who are trained in this sort of situation.

I can see that the poor woman might have gone blank when faced with a call which might have been from her sovereign; who was she to call their bluff and be wrong?

Because they simply wouldn't pay us to be there and do something like that. Her protection officer was there but he isnt there to man the hospital phones, he is there to protect Kate from unwanted attention etc. The staff are trained to answer questions from paparazzi and reporters but this nurse clearly thought she was addressing HM or she would not have put the call through to the ward. This is an example of the ripple effect yet again caused by the media, who should be ashamed of themselves, "Ooops, word censored!"ody could have guessed this outcome but it still happened all the same.

I've just read this

The nurse who killed herself after a hoax call to the hospital treating the Duchess of Cambridge had attempted suicide twice before, it was reported yesterday.

Tragic Jacintha Saldanha, 46, was also said to have been prescribed anti-depressants by doctors.

She first attempted suicide by taking an overdose of pills during a family holiday last December, according to reports in her native India.

The mum of two was rushed to hospital, but days later made another suicide attempt by throwing herself off a building.

People who have suicidal thoughts don't generally share their thoughts with others, and certainly not with their employers because of the stigma still attached to mental illness and fear of losing their job. The majority of suicide attempts end in failure, it's actually quite hard to kill yourself. I feel desperately sad for her that she didn't receive the support she needed after her suicide attempts. But having said that though, "Ooops, word censored!"ody where I work has a clue there's been anything wrong with me, therefore they can't support me, but I've got enough support outside of work to keep me safe, should I chose to call upon it. I have more sympathy than ever before for those DJs. This was not their fault.
