Clunie
Two days ago I was deighted to get my first egg from Olive who is my own cross - father a cuckoo marrans and mother a Cream Legbar. I'd been getting excited as I was thinking that she was going to lay soon (very red in wattles and face and aso crouching; as well as the frantic dashing in and out of the coop and screeching at the top of her voice). I'd been desperate to find out what colour of shell I would get and it was a lovely green colour . Much greener than the blue/green of araucana's. Now just waiting to see if the next egg will be darker. Anyway just wanted to share my news with you all. Thanks

Clunie
Hi Thank you all for your kind words. Got my second olive coloured egg from Olive this afternoon. Will have to take a photo and try and post onto the Forum. I only had one other female chicken like Olive who I gave away to a friend. Last time I asked about her she wasn't laying. Will have to phone up and she how she's doing.

Clunie
Hi Thank you all for the lovely comments . I must admit that I had never seen an olive egg before and was well impressed. I didn't actually set out to do the cross just happened that the two cockerels running with the cream legbar and others were of dark brown egg laying strain. One was a Welsummer, the other the Maran. Judging by Olive's very cuckoo markings dad was the maran. Unfortunatly she doesn't have a tuft, although one of her brothers whom I had to dispatch, did. Never mind she has beautiful eggs.
