Sex education for hens

Recommended Posts

Agnes has developed a strong interest in the 'goings on' of pigeons  . There are a couple who perform their love-making right in front of my girls electric fence, as soon as they start Agnes rushes across and runs up and down the fence with her chest all puffed out shouting - I'm not sure if she's hoping to join in, egging them on, or trying to scare them off  .

None of the other girls share Agnes fascination, although they come to see what she is shouting about then wander off again presumably saying "oh that".

I've now taken to chasing the pigeons off as it looks as though Agnes might jump the fence to join them; mind you it's quite amusing to watch her.

My Betty (bantam owlbeard) is bottom of the pecking order by a long way. She takes a great delight in chasing pigeons, blackbirds - anything smaller than her. It's her chance to move a rung or two up the hierarchy for a minute or two! None of the pekins bother. Maybe Agnes is a hen of low rank?!!
