Lesley
What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become something completely different? I can't remember ever wanting to be anything in particular when I was younger and after a complicated route through quite a few jobs I became a part-qualified Accountant (married to a fully qualified Accountant/Tax Specialist) - well, it pays the mortgage ......I now know that my forte would have been - Forensic Science. Too late to change at my age but I can enjoy reading about it.
Mrs Frugal
I wanted to be a nurse from a very young age which must have come from long hospital stays as a little girl. I did it too! Ask Dan, he's got the photos!!!
Mel (& Paul)
I can remember writing an essay when I was eight - I wanted to be a vet or a ballet dancer (not a girly dream - my mother was in the Royal Ballet so I wanted to do that). I actually had a place at Teacher Training College after my A levels, but met a man, fell in love and didnt want to leave him. Luckily we are still happy after 16 years of marriage (ahh!). Now I just want to be self sufficient with an eco house (but not a compost toilet....)

Mel (& Paul)
I suppose I got put off them in Finland when we were dog sledging. They were, er, rather full and the snow around them wasnt really pristine white
Nicola H
I wanted to be a photographer but when I left school at 15 I didn't have enough O-levels to get on the course........So I became a Dental Nurse until I met Jeff and he encouraged me to go back to college and I finally realised my dream and became a Commercial photographer. The Dogmother
Can't really remember what I wanted to be - probably a vet, though! Been loads of things in the past (including a pain in the a**e!). Went to art college, worked for Daler-Rowney - art suppliers, was a make-up artist, worked in marketing and recruitment, moved up to Banbury from London, more recruitment for a business training centre in Oxford, business development manager in export, then what I do now - office manager for a firm of construction consultants. Suits me fine - 5 mins from home and great people. Most importantly I am a mummy That's it

freerange
Now I just want to be self sufficient with an eco house (but not a compost toilet....) DS's ambition is to build his own eco house, complete with compost toilet. Mine was to be a forensic psychologist, but I somehow ended up being a pensions loss assessor trainer before having the girls. Now I'm a sling & nappy expert ( both designing & selling) so couldn't really be more different than what I'd epected.

ali-s
When I was younger I wanted to be a soldier and drive a tank. Being a farmer also crossed my mind. Ended up as a clerical assistant, mum, childminder and now a dinner lady in that order. Being a mum is best job in the world but the hours are "Ooops, word censored!"py and the pay diabolical. Cinnamon
Here is what I wanted to be, & the reasons it did not happen Model - too short, too round Lyracist - not enough imagination.probably decided to be lyracist in my "New Romantic years".NEVER base a career on a youthful whim! Writer - Prefer reading to writing.Prefer listening to reading. journalist - Yes, I am nosey enough but I would have a problem upsetting people In the Army - FAR too lazy So I became a mum,who does accounts for her Husbands company Not a bad choice, really

red
I wanted to be a singer/actress when I was very young, then a forensic scientist, then - by my early teens - I wanted to be a lawyer. And that's what I am. I would only give up the law if I won shed loads of money (which nearly happened last week when our syndicate at work got 5 numbers - so near yet so far! ) or if I could make a healthy living from writing. I started to write a book. Have written about one quater of it. I am going to try and carry on with it this winter and send to publishers etc. i don't believe any rubbish people say about writing novels only for themselves - I don't think a novel is finished until it has been read by someone (other than the author)! red
Just read that back and it sounded a bit materialistic and it wasn't intended to sound that way - honest!! I LOVE the law and am really passionate about it and that's the only reason I would only give it up for shed loads of money (although I'd still end up doing pro bono) or writing.
