sjp
OFWAT are only concened with a complaint about a Water company that aren't performing the role properly but you need to have gone through all the in house complaint system first but the topic fall outside that anyway
bluekarin
It was only a suggestion. Someone must know who is responsible
Chucky Mama
It stinks this morning, hasn't smelt in the morning for a while. I will try the Highways Department on Monday and have a look to see if there is any writing on the offending drain cover too. OH is heaving loftward to see if there is any obvious problem with the venting of waste gases.
sjp
It was only a suggestion. Someone must know who is responsible them knowning who responsible and admiting it are two differant stories I have the same problem evertime I report damage to the boundry fence between the allotment and a pumping station the fence belongs to the water company luckerly I know that but the call center try to pass the buck every time I've even had to explain to at least one operator what an Estate department is and that they have one at it's the ED that I need to talk to Chucky Mama the only name if any on the drain cover is normal who makes them be prepared for the run around from them to try saking for the drainage officer for the Highway Department it might cut out some of the call center run around if they think they are dealing with someone that knows the system if nothing else it will make them have to think about something that's not on the script they work from
The Dogmother
^^ What he said. The writing on the drain cover may only identify the company who was responsible at the time that the drain cover was installed; it may have changed hands since then, but could be a place to start. The county council (in charge of highways) ought to be able to tell you who 'owns' it but as SJP has said, it would be best to go straight through to Highways first; I just ask to speak to someone who can get the street drains cleared and they are usually out pretty promptly with the jetting truck. It must be awful living with that stench CM - you have my sympathies.
soapdragon
Try The Council for Water on 0207 931 8502. I have been dealing with (or rather trying to deal with!) Thames Water over a drain right outside ES's school which regularly overflows and floods the road with 'foul' water (ie; sewage) which then gets splattered all over children and parents going into school as cars speed by (its a main road.) I think TCFW is a kind of watchdog for the water industry; I have found them very helpful. Good luck!
Lesley
We occasionally have a similar problem and found that it was coming from dry traps - we have 3 showers and only the two of us so we now use one shower each and when we smell the familiar sewagey smell then I 'remember' to pour water down the trap in the third shower tray. As it isn't used it doesn't require cleaning often.....more of a dusting job than a cleaning job!....and the trap dries out.
Chucky Mama
We don't have anything like that Lesley but thanks for the suggestion. Our storm drain has now emptied so I am going to shelve the trauma of phoning around to see who owns the road drain, it too has drained away. We have had 1 day without pong
WitchHazel
We don't have anything like that Lesley but thanks for the suggestion. Our storm drain has now emptied so I am going to shelve the trauma of phoning around to see who owns the road drain, it too has drained away. We have had 1 day without pong I swould recommend it is still worth phoning round to find out, even though it now isn't urgent. It's likely it will happen again, and if you find out now (while there isn't a problem) then you will know who to contact immediately the problem reoccurs. Chucky Mama
I think that you are right. I will muster some energy and patience and give it a whirl today.
WitchHazel
I think that you are right. I will muster some energy and patience and give it a whirl today. Hopefully, because it isn't urgent and you don't have that awful smell to contend with, it should be less stressful to do now
Chucky Mama
I have reported it to the Borough Council 'gullies and watercourse' department
