Marigold is off colour

Recommended Posts

Marigold is my wonderful Suffolk Noir. She is nearly 3 years old and has never given me a minutes worry in her life. Until today.....She is much quieter than normal, her tail is drooping and she isn't as bothered about food as usual. She hasn't laid today but I think she laid yesterday. Hard to tell when they all lay the same coloured eggs.

Her droppings are creamy coloured with a bit of green in and runny.

We didn't worm them last year, so I have now wormed them with Flubenvet. Obviously I need to give it time to work, but I wondered about giving her some natural yoghurt and porridge oats but then it says once you have wormed them do not allow them to eat any treats, they have to eat the pellets with the worming powder in.

She could easily have worms as no one enjoys a dead mouse quite as much as Marigold, and by the same token she could have an upset tummy.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you

I'm sorry to read about Marigold.

You can't give any treats for the whole week of using Flubenvet.

I'm not sure which is the best way forward - to carry on worming or to stop worming and make her feel better and then worm next week instead.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Hum that's a tricky one. Maybe contact your vet for advice, you could always send off a poo sample? Green poo's (unless it's green food stuffs related )is not a good sign :(

Live bio natural yogurt is great for runny tummies (my lot love it :D ) Good for after worming or antibiotics. :D

Hope your girlie improves!!! Let us know how you get on?! :)

Thank you for that. To be honest her poo was more creamy coloured. I stood waiting for her to go as I thought that will tell me whether she is off colour or not. From a distance, as she went it just looked runny and off white coloured, but when I got close and examined it (the things we do) there was a little bit of green as well.

All the websites I have looked at re Flubenvet have said not to give any treats and to let the worming stuff work, so I think I might be best to wait. She wasn't proper poorly, just not her usual bonkers self

She has enteritis. More than likely picked up from eating dead mice and birds, which she does love to do. I am just surprised it hasn't happened before

She has had an antibiotic injection and I have two more to give Thurs and Saturday.

When we got home I made her some supper, natural yoghurt, porridge oats, grapes and apple sauce, which she tucked into. I got her bed and run ready in the separate run and when I got back I couldn't find her. She was in the utility room eating the cats food, much to their disgust.

The vet said she didn't look proper poorly, just poorly, so hopefully she will be ok.

Phew :D:D

This morning she looked brighter, her tail was higher and the dropping in the nest box were still runny but not green. Tonight she had gone to bed but got up again and looked a bit droopier again, but maybe that was because it was getting dark. I mixed her up a small bowl of layers pellets, corn, sunflower seeds and mealworm and she tucked in. I know she was only eating the bits she liked but with an abdomen infection I would think eating is a very good sign, wouldn't you?

Next injection tomorrow

When mine have been poorly or off their food the vet always says tempt them with their favs as it's important that they eat and then once their appetite is better switch over to their regular food stuffs. Pellet porridge is good and you can make it with lifeguard or nutridrops I think I've read here before. I've always found nutri-drops brilliant for poorly ones :D

I ordered the nutridrops and they arrived today while I was out. So I got her up out of bed and gave her 1ml, she seemed to quite like it, I dripped it on her beak and she was swallowing it. Obviously she has gone back to bed now, but she had a wander round the kitchen and ate a grape. If they work within 30 mins she is probably dancing round the nest box now. Hopefully them and rest will give a much perkier bird tomorrow. Her droppings are firmer too. They are a very dark green colour, but then chicken droppings are a dark greeny colour anyway.

Thank you for recommending the Nutridrops, how often should I give them it doesn't say

Thank you, I am not sure how much she weighs but she is pretty skinny

Thank you so much for recommending the Nutridrops. She has had a ml every day for three days and her droppings are back to normal. Small, but then she isn't eating as much, but normal. Her tail is back up too. She isn't as full of life as she was, but I have accepted she is getting old. She didn't have Nutridrops tonight, but I shall give them tomorrow, then I am working Weds and Thurs but will give them Fri,Sat and Sun.

I am off on holiday for a week and my neighbour is looking after them, so at least I feel I have left her the best I could
