Snowy
I have been looking on ebay for a fish tank and have come across a rather strange seller and wonder if anyone knows what he might be playing at? I'm tempted to report him, but am not sure what reason I would give, seeing as I haven't bought anything from him! Basically, I saw that he was selling two fish tanks so I sent a message asking him some questions about them - this was ignored. In the meantime, I checked completed listings to see what similar tanks were going for, and noticed both the tanks he was currently selling under completed listings as unsold. When I checked his list of current items, he had about 4 tanks on sale so I watched them all and they all sold with very good bids on them. Within a couple of days they were all re-advertised and appeared in the completed listings as unsold. In his completed listings, the same tanks appear several times - all unsold It is very frustrating as he keeps advertising tanks and they come up on my search list as nearest seller, but I daren't bid on anything of his now! What do you think he is playing at? Would you report him if you suspect he is a dodgy seller?
bluekarin
That does sound odd. I would be inclined to mention it to ebay and they can then decide what to do. I would also trust your gut and not buy off him.
Charlottechicken
Have you checked his feedback for any of these recently sold tanks? It all sounds a bit odd, specially if they are selling then being relisted.
Chicken deficient
Sounds a bit...fishy. (Sorry, couldn't help it). Do you think he could be getting his mates to bid on things to boost the price, and is then re-listing them if they accidentally win? I've got a 4ft tank you can have if you like? I'm about an hour from Leicester.
Snowy
Funny there is no feedback for any of the tanks! Bizarre! I will PM you CD
The Dogmother
I think that he's getting friends to bid as mentioned above. I'd report him to Ebay and let them investigate. The recycling shop at our local dump always has fish tanks on sale for a few quid - let me know if you're still looking and I'll see what they have. Cinnamon
If he is getting friends to bid,or bidding up himself if he has a second account, it is called shill bidding & eBay take a very dim view on it. I know...they tried to do me for this once (although they were mistaken) & I got a ban. Its easy enough to see....does the same person keep bidding or winning? Alternatively,he could be a wholesaler with a job lot who is just repeating listings once they have ended. Feel free to pm me his user name & I can take a look if you like
Snowy
PM'd Cinnamon, he only has two tanks on the go at the mo, not the same person winning either of them
TheGirlsMum
Is he taking them off at the last minute to stop the sale going through Ebay?
Cinnamon
You can't stop a listing with less than 12 hours to run.
Snowy
I'm convinced he has some kind of dodge going on - he hasn't sold a tank yet, despite no reserve prices and plenty of bidders, I just can't see what it is! Oh well, won't be buying off him anyway, will just keep an eye on him out of interest

Snowy
Really odd isn't it? He's listed another tank today. Same one that appeared to sell last week
merlina
may, of course, not be related, but someone's just posted a question on yahoo answers about someone who's refused to sell them a fish tank they won http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvancVKaBw22TLJK94ya27AQT31G;_ylv=3?qid=20130317154955AAgY4px

I'm really intrigued. I hope the Yahoo poster raises a case with Ebay - not that they will do much really, but they might suspend the doddgy seller. Snowy
Interesting. Don't think it's the same one though as my chap's fish tanks seem to rack up some really high bids
