michele
Has anyone got any idea why a hen lays an egg with a double yolk. Is this something to be worried about. Blackbeard's first egg had a double yoke and very uneven shell.
Egluntyne
The often lay double yolkers and odd shaped eggs when they first come into lay. Their internal tackle takes a while to settle down, nothing to worry about.
Geoid
Nothing to worry about, 2 yolks just means if the egg was to hatch there would be twins
xScrunchee
Nothing to worry about, 2 yolks just means if the egg was to hatch there would be twins I always thought that but then I read on here somewhere that double yolkers never hatch. starboyhull
I think that has something to do with not having enough room to grow and nutrients to survive, so both chicks would usually die Sure someone else will know, but im certain I read that....... smudgley
The only thing you need to worry about is ..................who gets to eat the double yokers.

harveypup
We get double yolkers from Clover 80% of the time She is also a mischievous escapologist but not sure if that is due to her hormones or not!
The Pearsons
There was a shop near us that sold only double yolk eggs. Sadly it has shut down - is there a breed of hen more likely to lay double yolkers? The shop had a few hens "out back" and said that the egs they sold were from these hens and they mostly laid double yolkers....... Now I wish I had asked when the shop was still in business! Couperwife
when we give our eggs away, we always give the smaller eggs, cos we know that the bigger ones are double yolkers and we want the double yolkers

starboyhull
I used it earlier, it was 71g so not a massive egg for a double yolker but still a lot bigger than the others normally......I have a feeling that one of the other ones we had today is a double yolker, I will get a pic for you and if it is I will post it......
