The Dogmother
Talking about that sort of thing - Rosie asked the other day how old she had to be before she got 'waggly boobies' - I do hope that she wasn't referring to mine!

Sheilaz
Whatever are they like? I've seen those pics already. It was bad enough descending into pants on every topic. Presents; Omlet boxers & the new Omlet door mat are good ideas. For some people (I'd like one). Doormat, I mean. Other than charities, I feel uneasy that we recommend particular shops or businesses on a forum (other than Omlet ). I suppose its not helpful to suggest a product & then not say who stocks it though I don't know, am I being prudish, maybe its insignificant. Yet we could probably cause a rush on one product ( think clear shower curtains!) and before long there'll be a personal involvement with a retailer.... Well, it is rather late at night, soz if I'm wittering; Presents; For the person who has everything, it can be fun to make your own hamper of Fairtrade food from Oxfam (larger shops). I think it looks thoughtful, in a double sense, and would be a lovely thing to receive as the luxury items are not what someone would buy for themselves. Unless its the choc dipped Apricot/Mango/Brazil nuts
The Dogmother
Hunny Bunny and Cupcake would like a pink Rablu. Georgie (little cat) would like not to be scared of everything Millie (big cat) would like to be the only cat in the universe, but then she wouldn't have anythng to hiss at. Rosie wants lots of books and a funky gilet I'd just like peace and quiet and a good book in front of the fire! No seriously, all expenses paid day at The Sanctuary in London would go down very well. As would Elle McPherson undies, world peace and the other two chooks laying eggs!
red
Come on you lot - no one's come up with a better idea for a grandmother pressie yet - at this rate I'll have to go for the support tights or at least another set of scented drawer liners! BTW - I had a metalic purple chopper.

Crooked Chicken
I too was a '69 baby. Remember very much wanting a 'chopper'. The girl over the road had one - a purple one. It was just the coolest thing to have, and I was dead jealous. I use to go round in this little gang, me, my sis, her friend and 4 boys. We all decided to buy demin jackets, stitch on patches all over them, laid them in the street, and stamped all over them to make them look really used and rugged. We though we were 'it'. Use to casually (slowly) walk past her (chopper girl) house - who needs a stupid little chopper when you're in a 'cool' gang, WITH boys, AND a demin jacket on your back ...................................... me . Right back on topic - PRESENTS. Red - present for Granny - very difficult - they've got it all at that age haven't they, but here's my granny list all the same. Bromley soap set (always a hit with the older generation); 4711 perfume or L'aimant; a cardi; subscription to Yours or Grace magazines; magnifying glass; cosy slippers or non slip socks; Thorntons toffees to suck; one of those lap trays with a bean bag stuck to the bottom of it; a homemade orange pomander (grannies love home made things). Need any more ideas

Need any more ideas I'm a Grandma - but I'm glad I'm not yours! (apart from the homemade Pomander ) Not all Grannies are over 90 Perhaps Red should have specified the age of the proposed recipient? Just off to take out a subscription to Grace magazine and look at funeral packages

Cate in NZ
I agree with Lesley, my Mum's a grandma and wouldn't be impressed with those ideas I'm afraid, she's too busy filling all her free time with wonderful activities and excursions to be bothered with reading magazines. I could go on, but she's a million miles from the stereotypical grandmother, frustratingly so sometimes. Where was she when I was desperate for a babysitter ..... Borneo, that's where Sorry, that's sounds really disparaging of some great ideas, but it just highlights once again that we are all so different, and the age and fitness of the recipient is more important than their title. If she's active how about membership to some local attractions, like the RHS if she's into looking at gardens, or a health club/ spa/ gym (my Mum'd love that, so there's an idea for me, not that she'd bother the treadmill or rowing machine, but the pool, jacuzzi and gentle yoga type classes would be a real hit). Is she keen on the garden- a tree or special rosebush might be nice, or indoor plants. Or how about an IOU, for help with DIY, shopping trips, lunches or just some of your time and company? Sometimes the older generation can get a bit lonely, if they're retired they may have lost contact with work colleagues, the family may have left home and scattered, health may limit their activities. That's a massive generalisation too I know, but if it does apply, your time and company is worth a whole lot more to them than a box of hankies or chocs
Crooked Chicken
OK so your not impressed with my ideas. But I'm only talking out of experience. My 2 grans are 91 and 90 - so they're 'OK' pressies for that age aren't they?? One of my poor old grans fell over a stupid rubber mat in Sainsburys last week and broke her hip. At 91 she's not going to get over that now is she. And not a word from Mr Sains - nothing - not even a 'how are you' - disgusting. There shouldn't be mats down in supermarkets anyway. Anyway, I'm going off topic. Presents for Grans - Grans range from 40 to 90 yr olds, so basically any present will do. It's the thought that counts.
Cate in NZ
Oh, Sue, your poor gran I can't understand any need for mats in supermarkets, but then I don't understand a lot of what supermarkets do Probably Sainsbury's is trying to keep mum, not write and in that way admit liability. Sorry, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm becoming very cynical, and I think they're scared of laying themselves open to litigation. I agree about the pressies, it is the thought that counts, and trying to put some thought into it so that the gift is something, no matter how big or small, that the recipient would really get some pleasure from. The Dogmother
For the last few years my parents have said that they don't want me to get them pressies - there's nothing that they need, and I don't have the money. But each year I get either Phil or a photographer mate to take photos of us for my parents, auntie and uncle and my sister. They always go down well. She did the B&W ones in my gallery.
