I have a greenhouse going up later this week and wonder whether anybody has some good ideas for keeping the chooks OUT! I was originally thinking of a stairgate (for toddlers) but have a horrible feeling the chooks will leap over and cause havoc. Am now thinking about a fly-screen.

Chicken netting should do it - its made for the job

I use an old wire shelf from one of those polythene greenhouses I think because they can't see any size to the top edge they haven't realized that they can get over it yet.

A bit of old trellis across the bottom of the door, and don't open it too wide. As my hens aren't usually out in the garden unless I am there, it isn't much of a problem.

My hens have no desire to go in ours. I guess there's nothing tasty within their reach so they don't bother!

I used a stairgate when I first had my ex batts to stop them coming in the back door, they soon found a way to knock the bloomin thing over equalling constant calls from the kids to let me know they were in the house, or you would be sat quietly in the lounge and one of the rat bags would wander past as if they owned the place ! Somewhere and I cant find it I have a picture of them with their heads poking through the rails of the gate !

I know the feeling. Fleur 'discovered' ours last week. She sat on the edge of the step muttering to herself whilst I was in there planting seeds. I think she was pretty disgusted when she realised there was nowt to eat and she made a loud bok as she left.

My husband made me a simple frame of wood and chicken wire that slides in easily and means I can leave the door open. He also made one for the conservatory door too. Does the job!
