silkie siting on eggs

Recommended Posts

I have a silkie in a cube sitting on eggs. I not sure how long she has been in there. On and off 2 weeks i think, but

she has been on and off them for the first week as out bigger chicken kept kicking her out to lay and then she

went off to our eglu and never went back, so i put her back - now she is sitting on them. I think she is sitting on

too many.......

I have been feeding her in the cube, now i feel she is not getting off to drink and poo. The is obviously not

the right thing to do...

She broke an egg today as i could see around her beak so i took that egg out.

We have a little cock in there so some of the eggs could be fertile.

Any tips incase some of them hatch? If i take out the bars in the cube can they stay in there for a little while?

Can i move them and the silkie ? Will she be able to look after them without heat ?

Thanks for any advise...

Any tips incase some of them hatch? If i take out the bars in the cube can they stay in there for a little while?there's a recent thread about using an eglu but I think it's been said in the past that a cube is suitable http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=92910

Can i move them and the silkie ? really she needs her own coop away from the rest of the flock broodies can get really bad tempered it's part of the programming to defend the nest plus the rest of the flock can get fed up with her sitting in the nest area and stopping them laying. and when the chicks hatch they want have any motherly instincts to them Will she be able to look after them without heat ?yes she is the heat

Thanks for any advise...

chicks will need to have a separate coop and run until they are about 18 weeks old as they need a different feed ration from layers

chick crumb from hatch to 6 weeks old

Growers pellets or mash from 6 weeks to about 18 weeks of the first egg

Thanks for that - Problem is im away at work so not sure if she does come out - but i dont think she does. There

is an eglu in run as well to help out the other chickens. I will take her off when i get home and read up on hatching

in a cube. Thanks :D
