Chook n Boo Mum Posted April 28, 2013 Share Posted April 28, 2013 DS is doing his Art IGCSE exam next week, and has asked us for photos taken in some Swiss caves several years ago, of stalagmites & stalactites (sp?)....we are having problems finding anything suitable and he's not allowed to use Internet sourced material! So....... Do any of you lovely Omlet aunties & uncles have any photos of stalagmites & stalactites which we could borrow? bluekarin Posted April 28, 2013 Share Posted April 28, 2013 My daughter sat hers a couple of weeks ago and she said for her art GCSE (it wasn't the IGCSE) she was allowed to use Internet photos but you have to make sure you credit where you got it from. Karin, probably a different exam board...he also thinks it's his Art teacher who is marking it who has made that stipulation...bless her! You can get marked down for using pictures from the internet as it's not original or your own work (e.g. if you spent the whole project drawing celebs), so the teacher might've banned them to prevent this. My teacher did the same. Also the teacher normally marks the work, which is then moderated quite strictly by the exam board. Not sure about the IGCSE though! Good luck for the exam! Angie Posted April 28, 2013 Share Posted April 28, 2013 My DD's exam were all IGCSE's as we were over seas . They were very strict with the things they allowed and more so when it came to marking. My YD did manage to keep her maths question paper as she was very surprised to see Maths O' Level / IGCSE on the front of it, she still has it to this day. chickencam Posted April 29, 2013 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Good luck to your son There are a lot of people who are not in the know that think that art is an easy option. My ED took it for both GCSE and A level and there is so much work involved not just drawing but annotating everything too. I think that we do worry abut the exams so much more than they do, they have spent several years gradually building up to them and it comes as something of a relief when they can tick them off one by one. Not only did she miss a lot during the beginning of term due to a medical condition so she had lots to try and catch up on, I think GCSE art is about how you get your ideas across and not just about ability to draw paint etc. and she finds that very hard to do. I remember feeling the same when I sat it all them years ago ( I was in the first year of GCSEs so guinea pigs ) I do hope it goes well for your son. It is such a long exam. Is he sitting both this week or one this week and one next week? My daughter did both in one week which was hard but she was glad to get it out of the way. She forgot to ask for her phone so she could take a photo of the final piece as apparently they are allowed to do that, so we will have to wait until October to see it. I get much more anxious than my DS who seems to take all these things in his stride. Willow Posted April 29, 2013 Share Posted April 29, 2013 I discouraged both mine from doing art GCSE due to amount of work I felt it was a shame as it would be nice to keep on something artistic but it's so hard for them to fit in all the coursework whilst they are studying other subjects.
