Anyone tried this? My ES told me about it - it's quite addictive! You basically get dropped randomly anywhere in the world in Google maps and have to try to work out where you are. It would be fun to do with kids at school/home.

It is a bit addictive! I was playing last night, but didn't realise you could zoom in on the maps. Might have had better scores if I did My geography knowledge isn't brilliant and I am quite pleased most of my guesses are in the right country. A couple have been way off though

Can you? How do you zoom in then? I am being thick! It took me a few goes to work out you could us the arrows to move around though That said, I have done quite well using a combination of guess work and detective work - got quite a few to within a few hundred yards Some way out though!

 

Has anyone else enjoyed seeing the places they have been dropped in? I've come off a ferry onto a mud road in Alaska, been dropped in a war museum in Brazil, looked out from a mountain viewpoint in Hawaii and also been to quite a few obscure Russian villages! It's been quite an adventure so far!

You can use the + and - slider on the left to zoom in (or the scroll on your mouse if you have one).

 

I'm amazed how quickly you can (usually!) work out which continent you're in. Sometimes it's the weather, the vegetation or just the road signs or markings.

 

The hard ones are when you land up in the middle of nowhere so there are no buildings/signs/any clues .

 

Only had one UK one so far - in Wales!

Okay I am definitely being thick as I hadn't noticed a slider! It's amazing how many long, featureless roads there are in the world, isn't it? No UK ones yet!

Right, it turns out the reason I've not been able to see a zoomy slider is because I don't have one! Is this because I'm using an iPad?

I got one spot on, but then I cheated there was a road sign I could read for a small town in Scotland and with the help of google earth open in a second window I could pin point the exact spot the pictures were taken. Big cheat really, most of the time I'm close with the occasional shocker like mistaking Scotland for New Zealand (I don't think you can get further apart)

Same here. Just do the pinch action on the map and that helps you zoom in and out
